I don't know why they even make these crappy ICs if the computers start fine without them. Seen them failing before.Originally posted by PeteS in CARemember that by the time consequences of a short-sighted decision are experienced, the idiot who made the bad decision may have already been promoted or moved on to a better job at another company.Comment

Re: Dell Latitude C640 dead
It's normal for some caps to show short circuit - it depends what they're attached to. If you lift them you'll see that they are fine. If those are the caps in the CPU area, removing the CPU will clear the short. This is normal behavior and the CPU is fine.
Check the mosfets in all power supplies. CPU, chipset, and so on.Originally posted by PeteS in CARemember that by the time consequences of a short-sighted decision are experienced, the idiot who made the bad decision may have already been promoted or moved on to a better job at another company.Comment

Re: Dell Latitude C640 dead
If you had read the datasheet of MAX6326 you would have understood why. That little IC is responsible for keeping the system powered down if the supply voltage isn't correct. Supposedly, to reduce the likelihood of smoke pouring out. It just sounds like planned obsolescence to me, especially since i've seen several reports of those ICs failing without anything else being wrong.Originally posted by PeteS in CARemember that by the time consequences of a short-sighted decision are experienced, the idiot who made the bad decision may have already been promoted or moved on to a better job at another company.Comment

Re: Dell Latitude C640 dead
i found a dell with the same issue , short in ceramic capacitors, all caps are shorted, this is very difficult to find the right one , but just one are bad making the mobo fail to everything , i fix this removing one by one starting from the power plug , after 4 caps i found one shorted and test the mobo without it and it work's perfectly , but weeks later another one cap shorted again , i change all caps and now it's okComment

by diamonI have a Dell Latitude 5530 with a damaged RJ45 network connector. See the attached pictures.
Have already searched on Farnell / Aliexpress / Ebay and had contact with several suppliers on Aliexpress and Ebay, but they cannot deliver this connector.
Is there someone inside the EU, who has these connector(s) or perhaps defective motherboard(s) for these laptop models I have mentioned in the topic title.
Pictures of these boards:

by diamonI have bought a not complete and defective Dell Latitude 5520 for parts (needed the networkconnector (RJ45) to repair a other board).
Have repaired the other board (Dell Latitude 5540) and I wanted to know if I could find out what is wrong with the 5520 board (SouthPeak15 TGL MB 8L 19819-1) and perhaps repair this one also.
After connecting the USB-C charger (both USB-C ports on the laptop, does not have an other option) and pressing the power button, nothing happens (no lights or fans, no capslock).
Have checked with a thermal camera, and there are a couple of things...3 Photos -
by F R 2568Hello all,
this is my first post, so if I make mistakes please do not hesitate to point them out, thank you in advance.
I got a Dell Latitude 5420 (Service Tag: 7RFM6D3, Motherboard: GDF40 LA-491P Rev.: 2.0 (A01)) which does not start and I want to repair it. These are the symptoms:
If the laptop is only connected to the AC adapter (battery removed):
When I press the power button, the keyboard backlight and the display backlight are turning on. Caps key light is lightning, but key does not respond to pressing it.

by YellowJacketHi folks,
DELL Latitude 5410, board number FDZ41 LA-J371P Rev: 1.0 (A00), schematic uploaded in different post, here is the link --> https://www.badcaps.net/filedata/fetch?id=3484415
When I connect it to a power ( DELL round charger, or USB-C ), LED on the power button starts flashing white, and the laptop doesn't do anything ( flashing slows for a very brief time in time when I press it, but it continues again ). Battery is not charging. While the charger is connected, I have few voltages present, but some of them are fluctuating, see attached pictures.
