    Heat gun for Jack removal

Ok, so I have been doing between 5 to 10 jack repairs per week, on laptops. So I am trying to find the best and most efficent way of doing them. I have been using my nice weller fine tungston tip and it works great for a clean sauldering job, but is not good for removal. So I have learned to use my pen torch very carefully for removals. But I do not like to use it. So I found what I think may work in a Heat Gun, by Weller with a reduction tip. Let me know your thoughts.

Unconcentrated from something like a heat gun can pop nearby SMD parts loose. Rework stations have nozzles so you can direct the heat right where it's needed unlike a heat gun.

Buy a product called Chipquik it's a low temperature melt alloy that mixes with the solder.

It remains in a molten state after heat is removed so you can heat all of the solder points and pull the jack off by hand. The remnants of the alloy and the solder can then be sucked up with braid or a solder sucker.

Looks like a good product, I will buy some of it to try out. Thanks for the tip, it sounds like it may be the key to make things easyer on the boards.

There are a number of videos on youtube.com showing how chipquik works. Just search for it. Youtube userid CuriousInventor makes good soldering videos and has one with chipquik.

I think I have the jack removal thing down

          its quite simple

destroy the jack. leave nothing but the legs from the jack cover and the power legs sticking out the top. take each one out one at a time. preferrably with a pnumatic desoldering tool, and make sure each joint is open and free

          put new jack on

I have spoiled many with hot air guns. So I switched to a hot air rework station and bought a great collection of NOZZLES. Without proper nozzles It would be difficult.

This is the same as my hot air rework station, same design with different name.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...SIN=B000HDDXY0

And If you have enough to spend, METCAL is the best.

Ayoue is company that knocks off Hakko products constantly. Their last popular rip off was the Hakko 937 digital soldering station that was recently discontinued. On comparison with the genuine article quality was seriously lacking and corners were cut at every turn.

Metcal is over hyped they're like the Snap On of the soldering world. While you'll find plenty of Strap On fans that would defend them to the grave. There are plenty of other name brands that work just as well minus the huge price tag. Hakko and Weller for example.

With rework stations though yes get a Chinese brand for occasional use just look at reviews for it first and get a well built one. A low end Hakko hot air station runs like 850 too rich for my blood. I'd only get name brand one if I could find it used for half price.

Samsung UN55FH6030CXZA main board USB jack indentification
                by valvashon
Samsung UN55FH6030CXZA main board, BN41-01894, bad USB jack. Jack is mangled and needs replacing with like. Jack is marked "Simula" with the number 130318. Search for Simula turns up a weak looking website of a company that seems/seemed to supply USB jacks and other USB technology but no current items turn up for sale.

I should be able to research and find something applicable through a Digi-Key search after I unsolder/cut out this one and measure the mounting/pin connection pattern on the board but I thought I'd ask here to see if anybody knows of an exact make/model...

                MDM removal on 16 inch 2019 A2141 MBP & 15 inch 2018 MBP A1990
                by TimScrawn
                Hi there,

This is my first post. I just wanted to come here to get a clear answer from some people about MDM removal on the 16 inch 2019 A2141 MBP & 15 inch 2018 MBP A1990. I have seen a lot of things on MDM removal, and wanted to know exactly what is needed to remove it, and what the best option is in 2024 when running Sonoma.

I know that Checkm8 have an MDM removal service now, that seems to be a permanent removal. I also have heard you can remove the T2 ROM and use a programmer to read the data and change the serial number. Im not 100 percent sure if this is a...

Mounting and Handling Guidelines for TO220 TO220F TO247 Cases / Packages

The TO220, TO220F and TO247 are the popular packages for power devices because of their versatility and ability to dissipate moderate amounts of heat. This application note describes the basic guidelines for handling power MOSFETs in TO220, TO220 and TO247 packages shown in Figure 1. Please note that only mechanical and soldering guidelines are covered here. Additional precautions are required for isolating high voltage rated devices to meet safety regulations.

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
                by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...

Dell 5590 LA-F412P does charge with USB-C not with DC-Jack
                by diamon
As mentioned, I have a Dell 5590 laptop with motherboard LA-F412P.
This laptop works with the USB-C charger and not with DC-Jack charger.
With the USB-C charger attached, the battery is charging and in the BIOS the charger is also recognized.

With the DC-Jack charger attached (USB-C charger removed), the light of the charger is not going off and the BIOS does not see the charger (message AC Adapter = Not installed). I'm using original Dell chargers and I have tested the used chargers on other Dell laptops and they are working correctly.
                I have replaced the DC-Jack,...
