Mini-PCI Express Diagnostic Card using UIM/SIM (SIM card) signals

On eBay, I bought a gold coloured Mini-PCI/Mini-PCI Express diagnostic card with a 6-pin and an 8-pin header, also with an Altera MAX EPM3064A (MAX3000A series), partially sanded off.
I found that the Mini-PCI Express section used all 8 UIM/SIM (SIM card) signals and +3.3VAUX, but not the PCI Express Clock, Transmit and Receive signals.
This card would not work in a WWAN (wireless wide area network) slot (because the UIM/SIM signals are only connected to a SIM card slot), but it did work in a WPAN (wireless personal area network - a.k.a. Bluetooth) and WLAN (wireless local area network) slot.

I wonder how the 8 UIM/SIM signals are implemented on this card, or laptops...

Re: Mini-PCI Express Diagnostic Card using UIM/SIM (SIM card) signals

I found that the LPC header is connected to the Mini-PCI Express connector, with the following connections:

SIM C8 (LPC Reset) (Pin 17)
SIM C4 (LPC Clock) (Pin 19)
    UIM_PWR (LPC Frame) (Pin 8)
    UIM_DATA (LPC AD0) (Pin 10)
    UIM_CLK (LPC AD1) (Pin 12)
    UIM_RESET (LPC AD2) (Pin 14)
    UIM_VPP (LPC AD3) (Pin 16)

I wonder which manufacturers implement this scheme. To date, Dell is one of them (it worked on a Studio 1555, except in the WWAN slot, as I mentioned earlier).

Marian Trace Alpha sound card repair help
        by Christos Tsiligiannis
        Hello to the forum.

My name is Christos, I am new to the forum here and i am posting from Greece.

So i have this old German sound card from Marian, called Trace Alpha. To be exact i have 2 of them and i use them professionally for my small FM radio station here. The first one works like a charm, but the second one does not work at all.

To be more specific in the same exact pc with windows 7 (i even tried 32bit) the one works while the other doesn't.

So i tried asking for a schematic from the company and they would not give me one. Instead they...

        Graphics Card mounting frame
        by Kemer
Hello, I removed the graphics card from my laptop and I want to heat it in the oven. What I want to ask is, is it okay to heat the card without removing the metal mounting frame on it?

As you can see in the photo, there is a plastic (black) gasket between the metal frame and the card. It sticks the frame tightly to the card.

I previously removed the metal frame while heating it, but it is quite difficult to separate it from the surface it is attached to. If there is no problem, I do not want to remove it.

What worries me right now is the possibility that...

EVGA Nu Audio Sound Card - Not Working
        by FZG
I have an EVGA Nu Audio sound card that is not working properly and I need some help diagnosing the fault (preferably by someone who owns this card and is willing to take some measurements).

The card sort of powers up (LED lights are coming on and the relais is clicking, some voltages are present) but it is not detected in Windows. I tried installing in two different PCs and tried several driver versions but the card was never detected anyway. So I thought this is probably not a driver / software-issue and then disassembled the card to take some measurements.

        I found...
