Check voltage on R015 before and after.

check the r015 and mosfet with Continuity Test using multimeter
see that site How to use multimeter

Hi, I have the same problem with exactly the same model of laptop, the dc jack is working fine and 19volts are present, i have a multimeter but i am unsure of how to test the individual componants on the board, i was just wondering if you ever managed to fix the issue and if anyone might have some advice ?

          Thanks guys

          Ste

Re: hp 530 dead no power

I have had a little further progress today on this, there is a MOSFET located next to R015 this was showing 18.5v on pins 1234 of the input side of the MOSFET but absolutely nothing coming out of pins 5678 and no power on the rest of the circuit after this so i am suspecting that the MOSFET is dead. The MOSFET in question is a AO4433 i have removed it from the board using my hot air station, but now i cant find a suitable replacement for it lol, Digikey and other sites dont sell this exact model anymore, unless i want 3000 of them which would be nice but i only need 1 so i have been trying to find a suitable substitute and was wondering if anyone might be able to recommend anything that would be ok for the job ? Thanks.

Ebay has several AO4433 on sale with free shipping.

                Hi Retiredcaps

Cheers for the input, much appreciated i hadn't actually thought of checking Ebay but have now ordered one so many thanks :-)

I dont suppose my logic in thinking that there was voltage on one side of the mosfet and nothing at all coming out of the other side is an acurate way of testing mosfets ?

I am a complete newb at all of this in depth electronics but find it all quite interesting, i have got plenty of laptops lying around that all have some sort of power issue and i think i have the relevent tools such as hot air rework station, BGA attachments and half decent soldering iron and a steady hand i just have no idea when it comes to actually testing the componants lol

I test mosfets for shorts. See the section on mosfets.

If you use the hot air gun to remove mosfets do they melt?
I have used one before to remove a battery maxim chip and it seemed to start burning(maybe it was bad) ,since that I use a soldering iron to remove and replace mosfets.

Thanks to this 3d, i found PQ4 shorted. Unfortunately I'll have to wait a lot for the spares.
Damn are they soldered with tungsten instead of solder?

                          Nailed.
PQ4 wasn't the only thing shorted. I realized it when the new one blew up.
Found a smd cap shorted, a "big" one, 10uF 25V, PC146, just near PQ4 on the board.
What is the temperature to use with air station? It's hard to desolder those bastards...
