2016 MacBook Pro 13 inch Touchbar no power

    Hi folks,
Got this MacBook pro 13 inch for dirt cheap because the seller said it doesn't turn on. Upon opening the laptop, and investigating the screen connector mainly the camera and backlight cable, it seems that the backlight cable was somehow repaired because there is an electrical tape on it. I am suspecting that it was a flex gate repair that went south.
My question is that what components be damaged if a flexgate repair was not done right.
Thanks for all for chiming in.

A shorted backlight won't result in a dead board, worst case scenario the backlight fuse would blow. Check your LCD connector for damage around the backlight pin however, as liquid damage in here results in 50V going into the CPU via one of the EDP data lines.

Thanks Reformatt! I will review the LCD backlight pin.

Reformatt, you are absolutely right about the info you provided. I disconnected the backlight flex cable and let the system sit for a couple of hours and now it turns on and chime. I will scope for a screen.
          Thanks again Reformatt.

The machine should still have a display via USB-C/HDMI if it is booting. Press CMD+F1 to switch focus if it's stuck at the logon screen.

Check the short interconnect cable from J8500 for liquid damage. Pin 43 which carries your 50V for backlight often shorts to pin 1 (EDP_INT_AUX_IN) if any liquid gets in there. That pin usually reads short to ground if that has happened. Machine still works, but no display on the internal screen.

Macbook Pro A1989 fallen, reboots if touchbar connected
              by modtool
              Hi to all,
the owner of this macbook brought it to me after a fall, that hit the upper right corner of the top case.
Luckily enough, the screen and all other parts of the machine haven't been damaged, only the touch bar wasn't lighting up anymore, and the macbook began to behave strangely, because it seems to start and work fine but suddendly it shutsdown (and at the same time the fans make a high rotation for half a second, as if an animal was annoyed by something...) at random times, sometimes after 2 minutes, sometimes after 5 minutes, but never over 10 minutes, then restarts...

              MacBook Pro 13 inch A2238 M2 stuck on 5V
              by Bmet
              Hi,

I have a MacBook Pro 13 inch A2238 M2 and it was stuck 5V with 0 amps. I measured some important lines and I found a short on PP3V8_AON_MPMU_ISNS_VIN, I tried injecting 1v and I saw heat coming from the mPMU so I removed the pmu thinking that was the problem. I don't know why I didn't check the other side of the border but there it was, a shorted cap. I replaced the cap and the short was gone, so I reballed the PMU and put it on again but voltage was still stuck at 5V and the current was fluctuating between 0 and 0.45 amps. I checked under the thermal camera and I saw the mPM...

Apple 076-00236 Genuine Apple Data Migration Tool for MacBook Pro 2016 2017
              by samstown
              Hello,

This special tool from Apple is used to recover data from Macbook A1706. I've been using it for a while but it stops working. When connecting Thunderbolt 3 between the tool and working Macbook, Macbook should prompt "new device detected, allow or not"... but it doesn't.

Has anyone ever experience this ? It's not a cabling or power supply issue, some IC have stopped working but not sure which one. Probably the one that manager thunderbolt 3

              Thanks

              Hi everyone!

I have a 2018 MacBook Pro (with Sequoia OS) that I've been using for years with no problem. I recently received an M2 MacBook Pro so I'm mostly using it and not the 2018 one, but since a friend of mine needs a computer, I thought I could restore my 2018 and give it brand-new-like to my friend.

I tried using the built-in tool to restore the MacBook (Settings > General > Transfer or restore > Delete) but it got stuck when trying to remove the Find Device configuration (it asked me for the password for my old Apple ID -now I use the same account but...

MacBook Pro Charges When Off, But Not When On (MBP 2014 15 Inch) 820-3662-A
              by itsmeapple
              Hello everyone,

I'm facing an issue with my MacBook Pro.

When it's switched off, it charges while the battery is connected. However, when it's powered on, the charging stops after a few seconds.

Another strange thing is that when I disconnect the battery and plug in the charger, the MacBook Pro turns on and runs without any issues.

I've already tried using a different OEM charger, but no luck. I even swapped the charging port DC-IN, but the problem persists.

Has anyone else experienced this issue before?

              Thank you!...
