LG Gram 13 Battery not charging, USB-C nor DC plug

    Looking for advice.

I have this LG Gram 13, from 2020. Recently, it seems that the battery simply won't charge. It's drained down to 0%, and will now only turn on when plugged in, either through USB-C or the DC charger plug.

I've opened the back to look for anything obvious but it all looks fine. I tested the voltage on the DC charger and its all fine.

What next? Is it possible the battery is fucked? I've read there are control circuits on the battery itself that regulates charging. Can that be replaced or does the whole battery need to be replaced? Is there maybe a software thing that needs to be audited?

Most laptops will offer a diagnostic tool to allow you to gauge the health of the battery and should display the # of charge cycles. Just installed 'vantage' on my Lenovo yesterday that performs the above tasks.

LG should have a similar tool for your laptop model on their website. Start with that tool to determine the present condition of the battery pack.

If convenient and available, source a known good battery from Amazon (risk free) for testing. Keep it or return it at your discretion.

If the next battery also fails to charge, then you will have to review the battery charger IC on this logic board. Once that component is identified, we should be able to perform some tests with a multimeter to better understand why the charging function is failing.

Batteries, if left dormant will often fail to charge = deep discharge.

Update this thread as you proceed to diagnose your unit.
