    HP 450 G3 - No power

    Laptop: HP 450 G3
    Motherboard: DAX63CMB6C0 REV: C
History: Stopped working after a power surge (supposedly through the RJ45 port)
Issue: Does not respond to power button (power LED is on though)
    What I've done/checked so far:
-Visual inspection: Board looks fine, even under scope
-Charging port and cable ok. Charging port is also ok
    -Removed battery and reset CMOS
-Measured 19v rail - passes the first two mosfets only.
-Measured all the coils: only 5V present.

Fixing it is not top priority, learning is (would be nice if I could find the fault). I have the boardview file and schematics. Help appreciated.

Main power rail and LDOs are working. Do you have a unexpected low ohms reading at one the big inductors?

Yep, 7-8 ohms on the big ones.

This doesnt makes sense as you have not mentioned the coil numbers along with readings for resistance to GND.

Here is a picture of the board with more details on the resistances.

This smells pretty much like a shorted PCH. I don't have access to the schematics and boardview right now, but if someone can confirm the "0 Ohms" coils belong to 3.3V and 1.05V then it is very likely a dead end here.

Well that sucks. Any way to confirm it for certain?

                    by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                    Assuming...

Acer Nitro 5 LA-L181p power LED turns on by 5 secs (Short on PCH rail?)
                    by Victor Moreira Silva
                    Hello everyone,

I'm trying to repair my old Acer Nitro 5 (AN517-54-55T5). I've already bought a new laptop, so this is more of a learning project. For the experience, with no high expectations of success.

Well, my decice specs are the following:

                    Model: Acer Nitro 5 AN517-54-55T5
                    CPU: Intel Core i5-11400H
                    GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650
                    Motherboard: GH51G LA-L181P Rev:1c

                    The symptom:
When pressing the power button, the power LED lights up for about 5 seconds and then turns off. Initially, the issue was intermittent: sometimes...

Acer TravelMate P214 - N19Q7 main power rail shorted to ground
                    by mkdj
                    Dear all,

I have taken out the motherboard of a Acer TravelMate P214. There is a short to ground on the main power rail (19V). I don't have the schematics or boardview for this board (DAZ8IMB1AA0 REVA). But I have found 4 MOSFETS close to the main power rail : 2 N-Channel and 2 P-Channel.

I have checked resistance across each of the 4 MOSFETS. I have the following readings:
                    Both N-Channel Mosfets: nothing odd

                    P-Channel MOSFET number 1:
                    source - drain : 117 kOhm
                    source - gate: 96 Ohm
                    gate - drain: 117 kOhm

                    P-Channel MOSFET...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
                    by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Samsung Chromebook Pro missing 1.2V power rail and no boot
                    by theflyingsquirrel
I am trying to repair my Samsung Chromebook Pro. There is no boot. Upon turning on, the screen is blank and there is no backlight. Power LED is blue. I tried refresh with power and esc refresh with power with no avail.

When I measure the 1.2V rail, it is pulsing. It will jump from 0 to 1.2V then 0 again. I replaced the 2 MOSFET and even power management IC and it is the same. Resistance from midpoint between mosfet to ground is 0.5 kOhm but it will show 250 Ohm first before jumping to 0.5 kOhm. So it feels like it was charging up some capacitor. Since MOSFET and IC was replaced, I...
