    820-01958 no charging

    hi all,

    i am working on macbook air A2179 820-01958.
    problem: no charging. usb amp meter 5V and 0.3A both and upside down.
    if using original battery, sometimes shows battery sign.
    if using neww battery can booting but still get 5V and 3A.

    there is no sign of water damage or liquid.
    measurement:
    PP3V3_G3H_RTC = 3.25V
    PP3V3_UPC_T_LDO = 3.2V
    PP1V5_UPC_T_LDO_CORE = 1.57V
    USBC_T_CC2 = 1.39V
    USBC_T_CC1 = 0V (6.3MOhm for diode mode)
    PPDCIN_G3H = 4.9V
    PP20V_USBC_T_VBUS = 0V (0.5 KOhm for diode mode)
    PP5V_G3S = 0V (13 KOhm for diode mode)

    the measurement is the same for another ic.

    for this problem should i just replace the cd3217 ?

    After a normal boot, do you see the battery details? Can you view the battery serial number,number of charge cycles, etc. ? This is important.

    Carefully measure the voltage to ground of each pin on the battery connector. Post all measurements.

    Interested to confirm the SMbus lines are ok (SCL and SDA).

      yes @mon2, with new battery installed, i get 5V and 0A but i can power on with power button. and i can see the battery information such as cc, batt serial number etc.

      without battery
      SMSBUS_3V3_BATT_SCL = 3.2V
      SMSBUS_3V3_BATT_SDA = 3.2V
      SYS_DETECT_L = 0V

      with battery
      SMSBUS_3V3_BATT_SCL = 3.2V
      SMSBUS_3V3_BATT_SDA = 3.2V
      SYS_DETECT_L = 0V
      PPVBAT_G3H_CONN = 11.55V
      PPVBAT_G3H_CONN = 0.3V

        I think you may have corrupted firmware. Do attempt and post your updates:

          hi@mon2,

          usually when i only get 5v, i can not get into DFU mode.

          is there any chance that i get corrupted usb c ROM chip (U3060)?

            Confirm the LDO rails on each ACE controller (cd3217). Each ACE controller must be working to dial up the 20v power delivery contract from the external power adapter.

            On the firmware bios, check the voltage to ground of each pin.

              LDO rails all are ok.
              BIOS (U4770)
              - PP1V8_AWAKE = 1.79V
              - SPI_SOCROM_CLK = 0.026V
              - SPI_SOCROM_MOSI = 1.79V
              - SPI_SOCROM_CSL = 1.79V
              - SPI_SOCROM_MUX_MISO_R = 1.79V
              - SPI_SOCROM_WP_L = 1.79V

              P.S. i flashed the USB C ROM chip but still get 5V and 0.3A

                Confirm the SPI_SOCROM_CLK line at other points of this trace. The voltage should not be stuck low unless the SPI bus master is not oscillating.

                  what should i do now?flash the bios?
                  can the not charging issue related to bios?

                    Re: 820-01958 no charging

                    1) Check the voltage to ground on each side of R4172.

                    2) Remove all power. Measure the resistance between R4172, pin # 1 and U4770, pin #6. This is to confirm the trace is still present between these 2 points of interest.

                      1. R4172 both sides have 1,8V
                      2. 2.9Kohm

                        Confirm the same voltage is present at pin SPI_SOCROM_CLK on the flash ic.

                          Also, the resistance is not correct as measured. According to the schematic, the R4172 resistor should be ~20 ohms. Confirm this measurement again.

                          Do compare the resistance of R4171 which should be also ~20 ohms.

                              i am so sorry @mon2, i measure on the wrong part (R4712)
                              i just measure now R4172 and R4171 is 20 ohms
                              voltage on R4172 = 0.014V (pin 1) and 0.026V (pin 2)
