Adequate capacitors for ZX Spectrum 48K

Hello, I think it's time to recap my ZX Spectrum 48K computers (Issue 2 and Issue 3) since they are more than 30 years old.

I suppose that Panasonic FR / Rubycon YXJ (radial) are the way to go, but I want to be sure before placing the order. I'd prefer them to be axial but I think the legs are long enough so it's not a problem. What do you recommend me?

Those capacitors are very low ESR - they didn't have technology so good back then, the capacitors were more "average" ESR.

No saying so good capacitors wouldn't work but it may make more sense to use some more "average" series... see for example from more average to higher end

Nichicon PJ, PS, PW, PM , PX, HD, HE
Rubycon ZL, ZLK , YXF, YXJ, ZLH
United Chemi Con KMQ , LXZ, LXY , KY, KZE ,
    Panasonic FC, FD, FK

You have http://es.farnell.com/ Farnell and https://es.rs-online.com/web/ RS-Components and https://www.tme.eu/en/ TME.eu - all have genuine capacitors.

Nice, thank you very much for the information. I already have some Panasonic FC from Farnell so I think I'll use them along with Rubycon YXJ for one computer and order FR for others.

I like the idea of sticking to the original specifications although the Panasonic FR are rated 5000h to 10000h versus 1000h to 5000h of the FC.

keep in mind, the spectrum was shit - it was designed to be cheap.
the biggest problem is it has a switching psu that generates the power for the ram.
that fails and kills the ram, or the ram fails and kills the psu
6 revisions and they never did get it right!
it really DID need low esr caps, but they never fitted any because of the cost difference.

Interesting, thank you! then I'll only use the Panasonic FR and Rubycon YXJ.

            I've already placed the order

It worked! thanks to the all the people that replied to my questions.

I also applied a bit of Arctic Silver Cerámique 2 thermal paste (not conductive and not capacitive) to the 7805 regulator.

If you are going to recap this computer please note that there is a capacitor with wrong polarity marked in the silkscreen.

                Replacing capacitors in Evga PSU
                by competition
I have Evga G2 1300w and I want to replace all the electrolytic capacitors because PSU is already 12+ years old and I want to give it more life before any capacitor does damage. There are no blown capacitors, but I want to protect myself by replacing them with new ones as a precaution. And now comes the main problem. I have 5 pieces of Bulk (I think they are KZE) 16v3300uf with dimensions 10/35/5, but I can't find them in that size, only 12.5/35/5.I have one KY 16v1000uf 8.5/19/3.5, one KY 16v220uf I think it is 6/13/3.5 but it is in holes of pitch 5 I have 4 pieces of KZE 16v2200uf with dimensions...

AA and AAA battery charger capacitors?
                by slybunda
hey all, iv got my favourite battery charger here which iv had for many years probably 15 years now or maybe even more. it still works good but thought id open it up to clean the dust out of it, lots of dust inside but now its clean and noticed 4 capacitors inside it and wondered if i should replace them.
                it has inside:
                2 x 47uf 16v caps 105c branded as Su'scon (lol sounds sus to me)
                2 x 470uf 16v LZ105c branded as G.Luxon

not heard of these brands are they any good?

iv attached photos of the charger and the board inside for an idea on the type of...

                Cyberpower 1500AVR UPS repair
                by quickname
I'd like to start out by thanking this forum for providing the info to be able to repair my 15 year old CP1500AVRLCD UPS. Here is all the info I gathered during my trouble-shooting and re-capping.

Like clockwork, I've had to replace the SLA batteries every 4 years. It was about that time and the UPS was acting like it needed new batteries... randomly shutting off with AC present, not being able to charge fully, and poor runtime when AC was removed. So, I replaced the batteries but noticed that it was not charging properly.

I decided to verify that the batteries were...

Panasonic switching power supply daughter board has two 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors which I do not keep in stock
                by sam_sam_sam
I did not have any 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors but one nice thing is that it has enough room for two capacitors in parallel a 22uf and a 4.7uf @ 50 volts 22 plus 4.7 equals 26.7uf which so very close to 27uf I will show some pictures of it sometime tomorrow

This is one of the shit est boards I seen in a very long time and it was the daughter board the traces just lifting off the board I had to use the capacitor leads to repair the the traces and the main board is not any better because I had to repair several traces for the daughter board to the main board

                After all of...

                Solar Inverter - SMH-II - 2 missing capacitors
                by Cama
                Hello,
I need help to find the value of 2 missing capacitors ( C102 and C117) on my Easun SMH-II mainboard (solar hybrid inverter). I circled it in red on the close-up picture. The 2 old capacitors are completely missing, so I have no reference. Does anyone have this board and can tell me the value or make an educated guess based on the location ?

My model is : EASUN SMH-II 7 KW
                Mother Board : P/N 18947-002401250250
Maybe the EASUN SMH-II 4.2 KW have the same capacitors

                Thank you...
