    Westinghouse Stove

This has got to be the oddest case of bad caps. When I got home last night, my stove was half-heartedly bleeting out the alarm that normally goes off after the rudimentary countdown timer goes off. This despite the switch being set to time not alarm.

Thinking that it might be a bad timing cap, I took apart the control board and replaced the two electrolytic caps (470/16 & 1/50) with spares I had lying around. When I put the board back in, the alarm continued for a few seconds and then tapered off. OEM caps were "Marcon" brand dated 1993.

Can't say how great it is for the alarm NOT to be going off continuously. Would never have thought of this repair if I hadn't been a member here. Thanks everyone.

Is the repair still a success? If not you might also have a problem with the crystal/ceramic resonator. I had such an issue with my range hood that caused intermittent erratic operation: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8654

Agreed a bad clock reference can cause all kinds of wonky things to happen with the micro controller.
Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.

Yeah, the noise came back in a weird but utterly consistent cycle with the new caps (building to a crescendo then quieting and repeating the cycle - clock would flicker too [the 7 bars would all light]). I don't cook much so I left it unplugged for a day.

WHen I replugged it in, all was good and the noise is gone. Been that way for 36 hours now.

I'm happy as-is but if it comes back I will investigate the thread you posted. Thanks for that.

          Honeywell Accenta G3 tamper alarm
          by Tom41
This house has a Honeywell Accenta G3 alarm system. If the main unit loses power for any reason, the external siren sounds - even if the alarm is not even armed! Entering the code to disarm it is not an option as the keypads are completely dead when the power is out.

I presume this means the backup battery inside the box has failed, but I can't get in there and replace it without also setting off a tamper alarm! Is there any way to disable the tamper alarm so that electrical work can be carried out with the power off? Or a way to replace the backup battery without setting off the...

          Alarm Siren issue
          by slybunda
Apologies if this is in the wrong section but being a car alarm siren that makes noise i thought it be best to put it in the audio section.
Had weird alarm issues where siren made a strange noise: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjsqndhionU
took siren out of the car and checked it out and pics attached seem to be the source of the issue.
shockingly the alarm still makes its normal sound if i trigger it manually so speaker seems to be intact.
getting a replacement is gonna be next to impossible, its a Toad Ai606 which is no longer in production and cant see to find a replacement...

Does anyone know about 16x2 LCD screens used in alarm keypads?
          by Ady2017
I have got an old Gardtec GT595 alarm which has got a faulty keypad with a failed LCD screen. This was apparently a very common problem with these and many people have had to replace the whole alarm because of this problem. Somebody claims to be able to repair the keypads by replacing the screen and I have tried it myself by replacing the LCD with a commonly available HD44780 1602 16x2 Serial LCD screen but it is not working. I am sure it is a problem with a driver or simular which is not allowing the screen to talk to the rest of the electronics. Does anyone know what this original screen was...

          Westinghouse W55UW4620 No Video
          by Nicktronic
Ok, so I know I know, it's a Westinghouse....lol It's got the backlights but no video. Likely the panel, but I'd like to take some measurements on the buffer board with help from you experts to confirm. See the attached pictures. In pic #1, there's a nice pin reference to use to take some measurements. The large IC in pic #7 gets up to 60degC when the TV is on.

So, backlights, no video, go! 🙂...

Help Request - Westinghouse 32" Smart TV (Model: WD32HBR105)
          by EBW
Westinghouse 32" Smart TV (Model: WD32HBR105) . Originally stuck on logo with no response from remote and no firmware file available to flash via USB. Westinghouse Support stated it would require service but that wasn't a cost effective option. I used dental floss to remove the motherboard processor heatsink to identify what make it was (Mstar). Unfortunately that knowledge didn't help with a solution. After the heatsink removal it only displayed a completely white screen. I then decided to replace the motherboard with a universal 3-in-1 board but the white screen problem continued. This...
