Anyone here tried the ps2 slim resurrector ide hack ?

    Hello.

This hack basically makes ps2 slim 7000x models able to load games via hdd like the ps2 fat with its hdd adapter via HD loader.

So I want to know if someone did this and how is the compatibility and all that ?

Here are the public pinouts on the motherboard

    I did.
Compatibility is perfect. Have not had a problem in 8 years.
The soldering is a bit of a hassle, the space between the points on those resistor arrays is extremely narrow, and the leads on the resistors are somewhat easily broken off, so a good job means adhering the wires to the board before soldering so they aren't flopping around and yanking on the leads. And if the hard drive is going inside the ps2, not sitting outside it, then the wiring gets difficult and needs to be arranged (and glued down) inside in such a way that there's very little overlapping of wires, whether with each other or with board components, because space in the ps2 is tight and loosely cramming 28 wires into the back won't work. It also takes chopping the shielding in half, see mine in the pic below. Using a sata hdd is probably more difficult. I had a japanese webpage bookmarked that shows an internal sata hdd and its adapter. http://vaot.mydns.jp/fc/SsdInPS2.htm

OK that is good to know , because back in the days this was a dream for slim owners ( a console that has the same hdd functionality as a fat )

Insulated copper wire will do the job i think !

What size do you think will be safe for soldering on those resistors ?

is it faster than the usb interface?

I don't know wire gauges, sorry, but they need to be a very small size.

It's faster than running a game disc.

Yes, as the points are basically the direct IDE signals found in the expansion port on phats.

30 AWG Kynar wire should be enough. Most people use it for PS2 chips.
            Main rig:
            Gigabyte B75M-D3H
            Core i5-3470 3.60GHz
            Gigabyte Geforce GTX650 1GB GDDR5
            16GB DDR3-1600
            Samsung SH-224AB DVD-RW
            FSP Bluestorm II 500W (recapped)
            120GB ADATA + 2x Seagate Barracuda ES.2 ST31000340NS 1TB

if i was going to do this, i would get a 44pin IDE to SATA adapter board and remove the connectors and wire that inside.
i did that with a dreamcast - had an ESATA connector screwed to the back of the case

Since the ps2 input is ide , Isn't it the reverse ? Sata to ide ?

                  descriptions vary,
it's the board to use a sata drive in an old laptop or something - very cheap on ebay.
i paid about $4 for one
the ESATA cable cost more than the board!

Sounds good if it allows more than 128 gb .

Please share the model you bought .

the cheap ones have no model,
just look for one with a marvel chip or a j-micron chip.
they are better than sunplus ones

                        Thanks man .

Now all i need is some motivation to do the wiring

                            The moment of truth.

It feels great to play ps2 the right way after all these years.

Yes, especially since the USB ports on the PS2 are USB1.1 which tops out at 12 Mbps (1.5 MB/s) so ATA/66 (66 MB/s) is a rocket ship by comparison and much faster than the DVD drive (5.28 MB/s) as well.

                              X2, though I went the "easy" route with a "Fat" PS2 (SCPH39001)

                                that's just flexing!
next you need a sata version of the adapter and a bigger drive

Good for u , fats are the easiest but rare nowadays .

Even the slim I got is beat up and has no dvd drive or screws.

Time to resurrect some dead bodies.

I know availability varies worldwide, though since only the first generation of slims support the IDE HDD mod (as later variants removed the components that supported IDE connectivity all together rather than just omitting the connector) and these models were only produced for a little over a year (2004-2005), at least in the US it is generally easier to find "Fat" models (often with a dead DVD drive but that doesn't matter if you're only going to run games off the HDD) than this small subset of slim models that supports adding back IDE connectivity.
