Re: Anyone here tried the ps2 slim resurrector ide hack ?
I did.
Compatibility is perfect. Have not had a problem in 8 years.
The soldering is a bit of a hassle, the space between the points on those resistor arrays is extremely narrow, and the leads on the resistors are somewhat easily broken off, so a good job means adhering the wires to the board before soldering so they aren't flopping around and yanking on the leads. And if the hard drive is going inside the ps2, not sitting outside it, then the wiring gets difficult and needs to be arranged (and glued down) inside...Last edited by foxer; 10-11-2023, 01:53 PM.

Re: original xbox power supply
Does anyone here have a list of values for ALL the resistors on the FTPS-0001 rev B? Most of the ones in my psu have either faded color bands or they're browned from heat so I can't confidently tell what values they're supposed to be, knowing them would be helpful if I need to do repairs.

Re: Sony AV1010, basically works but heatsink is cold, resistors overheating
I'm not referring to the resistors circled in the pics but to the large white 0.1ohm ones, sorry if I bollixed the name. Many of these things are new to me.
Powered on and measured the resistors themselves. Out of curiosity I let the unit stay on a few minutes, then added speakers and played music but the load had no effect on my readings....

Found time to check the emitter resistors today. I set my meter to 10 dcv. There's nothing. Maybe the voltage could be too low, but the needle did not move even an infinitesimal degree on any of them. Hmm..

Re: Sony AV1010, basically works but heatsink is cold, resistors overheating
I'm not sure about that. The heatsink and its big transistors stay cold to the touch no matter how long the unit is on, this can't be normal operation. At least, in my experience it's not. Why does something have a heatsink if its not going to be sinking any heat....

Sony AV1010, basically works but heatsink is cold, resistors overheating
Weird stuff.
I press power on this receiver, I hear the relay click, I can play music and get radio, everything apparently works but not really. The big heatsink stays cold to the touch, the small heatsinks to the two voltage regulators on the mainboard get super hot, and there are two overheated brown areas on the mainboard with an identical pattern (circled in red), centered on the components on each side of the big capacitors (removed in these pictures). Those last components, of course, also get burning hot.
So...I spent the week with my novice skill trying to locate...

Re: PS2 slims use polymer capacitors?
I saw that page before and console5's page. All I see is them alleging the things are polymer....

Re: original xbox power supply
mine is a ftps 0001 rev b and it's 39ohm, too
R10 is a big resistor btw, what are you doing with your xbox to make that part explode?

PS2 slims use polymer capacitors?
Do we know if they do? My slim is a 70012 model, though I've seen these polymer-looking capacitors in another slim revision. The service manual says nothing (apart from the values), nor do google and the many other forums. I've already replaced all the obvious electrolytics -- with no performance problems after a year -- but these colored-top ones grouped in the back are a mystery, and I don't feel like potentially screwing up things.
I think it's odd that apparently nothing exists online addressing these capacitors in ps2 slims in the nearly 20 years the console has been aroun...
