Apologies if this is the wrong forum, but I'm not looking for a specific BIOS file, I'm trying to understand how one makes a clean BIOS file. So here's the background. I have 2 HP EliteDesk 800 g2 mini 35w pcs. One is working fine; the other doesn't have display out or working USB's nor does it have any flashing error lights. The CPU does get worm enough to cause the fan to spin up, so I think it's posting, but I just don't know. I had it working at one point but trouble started when I tried to put in a drive caddy that had a cooling fan on it. I thought it would be compatible but wasn't and the thing stopped showing video. I think somehow I managed to corrupt the BIOS as I tried to restore to factory settings.
Looking on the BIOS request forum, I see that there lots of people who can provide clean BIOS files, but I'm trying to understand where those come from. For example, could I merge the .bin file I get from reading my good BIOS chip with the file on the corrupted one? Do I go line by line looking for differences and correct them by hand? Or as my topic suggests, can I just flash the .bin file from the working computer onto the BIOS of the non-working one? A Google search says no, but a Duck Duck Go search says yes. I"m at the theoretical stages here, so I don't even know for sure if the two machines use the same BIOS chip. I just first want to understand how the clean BIOS files are generated and I want to see whether I can generate one myself.
