    Strange resistance readings on Radeon RX6800 VRM

    Hi guys
    I can't quite get my head around the resistance readings on this GPU

    On phase of Vcore VRM reads higher resistance than the others

    I can't think any way this could happen unelss one phase is not directly connected to the others, but is conetced via a low value resistance

    Can someone unconfuse me please

      TBH, I'm not too familiar with these newer gen GPUs, so perhaps it is possible that this one phase is not connected to the others. Have you traced the MOSFETs for that phase to see if they are exactly connected like the MOSFETs on the other phases (and to the same controller)? I think that might be the first clue in telling if that's part of the GPU VRM or some secondary GPU VRM. I do agree that it's strange that only this one coil reads higher resistance, though. I'd expect to see at least another phase in parallel with it, if it was to be some secondary GPU VRM rail. On the other hand, if all of these phases were to be connected together, then the only way that higher resistance would be there is if the copper trace from the coil to the GPU chip has burned and gone high resistance... which I think would be highly unlikely.

          Thanks. It shouldn't be too difficult to see if this phase goes to the same controller as the other phases, for example if there is an 8 phase VRM controller

          But I couldn't find a datasheet for the coil driver IC either so that does not exactly help

          Because this one phase still has a very low resistance to ground it also seems odd to me that it would be a singleton as you mentioned.

          I could just try powering the card up and measure the voltage on this and other inductors on the VRM - but I really would like to understand what I am looking at first.

              OK I pretty much got to the bottom of this - at least I have a plausible theory for the odd resistance readings on the VRM

              The fault on this card appears to be elsewhere

              It's easier to watch than for me to explain in detail what I worked out

                  Hi guys, i was wondering, i've got 9Ohms on Vmem, one of the mosfet was shortet to ground, so i've desoldered hi and low mosfets nad still low res, then i removed all of the memory chips, and the resistance is still low, so did you had maybe a card with that low res on memories, and the card was working fine ?
                  Removed the U1866Q and still without result, i dont have thermal cam so can't see where is hot spot when incjeting voltage.
                  The resistance on core is ok 0.1Ohm ((Power 0.8V when on)
                  Resistance on 12V 4K ohms (Power present when on)
                  Resistance on 12V PEX 4K ohms...

                  Hello.
                  Does anyone have any experience with disabling a power phase on the CPU vrm?
                  The controller is IR35201 6+2 phases. It only uses 5 phases and the pins for pwm and feedback on the 6'th phase are not populated (no traces).
                  I got the board with a burned mosfet which I removed along with a part of the pcb. I dremelled away the short as best I could and the board started up fine without the vrm heatsink.
                  I then put some sealant and left it for two days to completely dry. I suspect the pressure from the thermal pads on the heatsink compressed the layers so when I started...

                  I'd like to start out by thanking this forum for providing the info to be able to repair my 15 year old CP1500AVRLCD UPS. Here is all the info I gathered during my trouble-shooting and re-capping.

                  OK, this is a long shot. I got this sewing machine cheap because it's end of line, ex-display, and had no pedal. The genuine pedal costs £60, while Ebay knock-offs go for around £15. So I went for the knock-off, it doesn't work, and I'm not sure whether it's the pedal or the sewing machine that has the problem.
