Chemicon KZG don't like heat, judging by these 8 x 20 next to the heat sink

Re: Gigabyte with bad Chemicon
Replaced by salvaged Nichicon HM (I know, I know, undesirable, plus they are in the suspect date range) - missing one populated as well
Underside shows discolouration beneath the processor - strange seeing this GA-8ST800 is not supposed to support a hot running Prescott or Celeron-Dbetter to keep quiet and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt -
Re: Gigabyte with bad Chemicon
one word- overclocking. some dweeb must have been oc'ing that thing, and had too small a cooler.
those kz_ series chemicons are VERY heat sensitive.sigpic

Re: Gigabyte with bad Chemicon
Hmmm, not always ratdude. We've seen these KZG's pop inside stock emachines.Comment

Re: Gigabyte with bad Chemicon
well... emachines can have shit cooling. mine did... until i fixed it.
also, i was referring to the discoloration.sigpic

Re: Gigabyte with bad Chemicon
In this particular case (because of the discoloration) it looks like either some pretty heavy duty OCing or a heatsink that was only making partial contact or perhaps a dead heatsink fan that went unnoticed or maybe a bad combination of more than one of those, but what I'm saying is that overclocking is only one of many reasons for why KZG would fail. We can't really generalize and blame it on OCing. OCing isn't bad when done properly, just ask acstech.Comment

Mounting and Handling Guidelines for TO220 TO220F TO247 Cases / Packages
The TO220, TO220F and TO247 are the popular packages for power devices because of their versatility and ability to dissipate moderate amounts of heat. This application note describes the basic guidelines for handling power MOSFETs in TO220, TO220 and TO247 packages shown in Figure 1. Please note that only mechanical and soldering guidelines are covered here. Additional precautions are required for isolating high voltage rated devices to meet safety regulations.

by DynaxSCHi,
I discovered a strange behaviour of GIGABYTE GA-H110M-S2 board.
General test conditions:
- Tested with Core i5 6500 and Core I7 6700K - no difference
- Default BIOS settings, but tried also altering several memory setting - does not change anything
What is wrong:
With BIOS F1 and F2 the board normally POST's and boots to Windows 11 with 2 x Patriot Viper Steel PVS416G440C9K RAM (4400MHZ, Samsung B-Die chips)
When BIOS upgraded to anything above F2 (ie. F20-F27b) the board POST stucks after 3 Debug Codes on Code C2... -

by momakaMore eBay specials: this time a Gigabyte GP-P450b 450W ATX PSU for $8 with free S&H. Listed “For part/not working”, as usual. Showed up in a beat up EVGA box without any padding… but that's understandable given the total price. PSU made it out fine without damage. It's a non-modular (yay!), pretty modern-day looking PSU with a black paint and all black cables (meh, not my favorite, but figure it's good to keep a few of these in case I do need one for a more modern PC build, just so my old gray boxes don't look too odd in there.)
And a shot of the label:... -
by HondamanI hope my computer does not randomly reboot while typing this. My main system is the AsRock 970A-G/3.1 motherboard with the AMD 8150 chip. I am experiencing FREQUENT and RANDOM reboots once the system is used for a couple of hours (sometimes it reboots before I even get to the Win7/Linux Mint dual-boot screen). The problem MIGHT be the DRAM controller chip (I recently upgraded to the maximum 64 GB RAM). It also might be the VRM chips. I am using a typical aftermarket CPU cooler, which does NOT blow air DOWN onto the VRM heat sink.
(After previous generation hardware [Gigabyte] didn't...-
