Hi i have a gigabyte mobo which i pulled from a pc i got given and it all looks good except one cap which was bulged and leaking. all the rest of the caps are nichicon and sanyo so they should be good but the cap thats bulged is by itself next to the cpu at the right and its a kzg cap but i wont be able to test for a while so i was wondering if its worth buying a psu to test it. the cpu is a pentium 4 (dunno what speed or anything all i know is thats its lga 755), 2x512mb ddr1 ram (samsung) and an old ati radeon gpu i think its a ati radeon x400 or something like that, i know the gpu is probably complete crap for anything these days but does anyone think its worth fixing up which means getting a psu and hard drive (i have a case)

What would you plan on using it for? I think it's worth fixing, you'd want some more RAM though. Unless you're running linux, 1GB can't do much. You'd want at least 2GB in there for Windows 7. Video card should be fine if you aren't gaming, and you can turn Aero off to improve performance. What's the model of the Gigabyte board? You want to replace ALL of the KZG, they will all fail eventually if you use the computer. -

it would probably be used as a fileserver of some sort or just to test hard drives etc strangely theres only one kzg cap on the whole mobo and thats the one thats failed. all the rest are nichicon and 3 are sanyo. also if the computer works with that bad cap will it be ok to continue using it or would it just blow up eventuallyComment

nvm swapped it for an asrock mobo with dead southbridge, the mobo had 2x4gb ddr3 ram and an intel core i5 which both work so all good, i now have 16 gig of ram in my pcComment

I have a Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 (G533QM) that had a dead motherboard (Graphics card dead) and after trying to fix the motherboard with no success, I bit the bullet on a sale for a new motherboard. I ordered a motherboard for the 15 inch model which is the one that I have, and when the motherboard arrived it wasn't for a little while that I saw it was from the 17 inch model.
My question is, can I update the Bios on this G733 motherboard to a G533 Bios.

To give you some context, I'm passionate about computer repair so much so that I've invested in a lot of tools and started practicing on dead and old hardware. I've been learning how to solder and desolder components, mostly focusing on phone repairs.
Recently, I bought a broken Lenovo Legion Y540 17IRH for just €150, and there are two main reasons why I made this purchase:- I already own the exact same model, but its plastic chassis is badly damaged.

Subject is a blank screen issue in HP Envy 17-3290NR 3D version laptop with motherboard Louis V1.1 6050A2489901 MB-A02. Production year is 2012. This one is a 2nd hand motherboard which I could use it for few months only. Suddenly no output from the internal display and also no signal from HDMI port then Windows out of order after few boots.
Caps lock working normally and no HP's caps-lock warning blinks. Making a hard reset and replacing the RAM sticks or using different slots didn't help.
Fans are spinning. Blindly could install windows11 and got the device manager... -

I'm working on my sister's laptop: Asus VivoBook F510UA-AH51 - The motherboard died so I replaced it.
The original board was:
ASUS X510UNR REV 3.0 A
The replacement board is:
ASUS X510UNR REV 3.0 B (identical except B vs A - I couldn't find an A board anywhere. Visually they are identical.)
It boots right up on the replaced motherboard and everything works fine on the new motherboard - but it won't run off battery. When I disconnect the charger it immediately dies. When I plug it back in and reboot the system - it still shows the battery at...
