    MSI 7950 replacement capacitor

Hi all. I'm so glad this forum exists. I know only the basics on components and some of these ratings threw me a little.

I've got my hands on an MSI 7950 GPU, which has had a capacitor broken off. The ratings are as follows: ULR 16V 270uF BP
Am I right in thinking this would be a suitable replacement? What exactly does the ULR stand for?
The guy I bought it off of also gave me a replacement rated as: FP 25Ad 271 16, which doesn't seem right. Or would it work?

Help would be hugely appreciated. Thanks.

    Re: MSI 7950 replacement capacitor

    ULR is the series name.
It's a series of capacitors manufactured by Samxon, here's the datasheet (temporary ftp location) :

It's a through hole polymer capacitor optimized for high ripple current and low esr. 271 is 27 x 10^1 = 270uF , 16 is the voltage rating.

It can be replaced with any capacitor that has at least 5000mA ripple current and at most 13mOhm, as you can determine from the tables in that datasheet.

So if you go on digikey, just filter by polymers, 270uF , 16v then sort by ripple current and pick what works best for you (check diameter mostly)

The one you linked to will do. So will these ones:

    etc etc

      Re: MSI 7950 replacement capacitor

      Thanks for the reply.

So if the FP 25Ad 271 16 is in fact 270uF, if the ripple current and esr are suitable, I could use it?
Or are BP and FP not interchangable (I assume BP is bipolar, not sure about FP)

They're not bipolar, both have a negative sign (band).

Yes, the FP (Functional Polymer) capacitor should be adequate.
