    ASUS A7V vanilla cap report.

I have an old ASUS A7V in front of me.
    The caps are:-

    3300uF, 6.3V - Rubycon MBZ
    1500uF, 6.3V - Nichion
    1000 uF, 6.3V -RLS/OST ? Tons of these!

Wow, there also seem to be 16 spots enmarked for caps of various sizes, that are just empty.

On a related note, I have a few caps missing on my ASUS P5W-DH? Should I go ahead and add caps at those locations?

Classic case of mixing good and bad caps. Sad really, since it's only going to be as reliable as its weakest link.

I guess it depends on both the location (ie. is it in a 'stressful' area such as CPU VRM?), and the quality of the caps that already there.

Crap. I realize I posted this in the wrong section.
Now I know why. The box says SOYO! Sorry mods, please move this thread.

Tiresias, the caps on the P5W-DH are all Chemicon or Nichion. The missing areas are near the CPU Fan header, beside the PCI port and near the PCIE port. I think there are 4 in total.

Asus A7V should have the yellow Fujitsu caps on the VRM board - at least I've seen them on A7V and A7V133-C.

I could spot none. There was however a gold striped OST. From what I have heard OST=Crap. The dude who was going to junk the board said it was horrendeously unstable. Maybe a recap is in order.

PS* I do not know anything about Fujitsu caps? Are they any good?

I have an A7V333 with Nichicon in vrm and Ost in all the smalls. I love ASUS boards, but they must get a great deal from Ost. My Compaq ASUS board has UCC in vrm and Ost evrywhere else, and its only a couple years old. Atleast they don't use them in high stress areas, unlike the ECS L4VXA2 i just bought. 10mm 3300uf 6.3. Ost in vrm. They will most certainly croak. Time to get more MBZ from TC. The board was $16.99 + free shipping from Newegg, so I cant complain too much.

That's the typical Asus cap setup, Nichicon for the VRMs and Ost RLS around the slots.

And United Chemicon for the VRMs and Ost RLS around the slots for later Asus motherboards, starting with the Asus A7N8X family.
