Jetway 993AN with two busted GSC

As you can see I've a Jetway 993AN with two busted GSC RE-series 1000uf 6.3 volt caps around the VRM. The question I'd like to ask is, would it be alright if I use Rubycon MBZ 1500uf 6.3 caps in the place of the GSC? (Please note the difference in capacitance...)

    Thanks,

In generall it is safe to use larger caps (in destinnct limmits). I think this should be no probelm there.

And if there are any other GSCs, don't forget to replace them all. Sooner or later, they will fail all.

OK, I replaced all but one of the 1000uf 6.3v GSC RE caps on the board with Rubycon MBZ 1500uf 10v caps. (I ran out of caps before I could get to the last one. Of course, I replaced the two busted caps.) I'm currently testing the board, it tends to flake out occasionally under Windows 98SE but that's only to be expected of an el-cheapo board based on a very old VIA chipset anyway. Once I get all the caps changed out I'll probably start seeing an improvement in stability.

Thanks for your help (again), guys.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, there are a bunch of GSC M-series general-purpose(?) caps all over the board. I'll probably try changing those out too once I get some more caps.

My apologies for bumping this ancient thread, but what exactly does it mean when I see a _very_ slight (almost unnoticeable) amount of 'wavy' interference on the screen? Funny thing is, it only appears when I use a Slot-1 Pentium III 550 (Katmai core, 100MHz FSB). It goes away completely when I use a Pentium II 450 MHz or a Socket 370 Celeron. Do capacitors have anything to do with it, by chance?

Just out of curiousity, changing the Spread Spectrum around seems to have an effect on it - with S.S. off or set to .25%, it's very obvious, whereas with S.S. set to .05% it's almost unnoticeable.

BTW I got rid of that nasty old POW!Max. I'm running a Hipro 200W on it now which, despite its Fuhjyyu capacitors, seems to run more stably than the PowMax ever did. And yes, I think the interference was there even when I was using that old PowMax.

I've seen that symptom a lot when two crt monitors are next each other or on top of each other.
