So I got this Gigabyte s478 for free, too lazy atm to check what model it is, and when I tried to start it wouldn't boot at all so I used the hairdryer trick to heat up the capacitors to see if it'll start (all OST and a few KZG's none bulging) and it did boot but only to the point of initializing USB devices. I'm thinking of recapping the whole mobo with salvaged caps from other mobos but don't know if it's worth the effort. Could this problem be caused by the OST caps that are obviously failing or could it be the the USB controller IC and will removing it allow the motherboard to boot normally? Also when I plug in the 20pin PSU connector or the power cord to the PSU the fans on the mobo briefly start turning and after about a second they stop. The mobo has a VIA chipset I think... I'll have to check what mobo it is tomorrow, getting late here. Pic's coming up in next post.

by HexelHello!
I need help identifying part name of IC in QFN16 packadge under SSD, near audio jack and 1206 capacitors (marked on photo). Unfortunatelly there is no refdes of that part so that is only info I can provide. I took boardview here on forum for revosion 2.0, but it doesn`t have this part at all, not just moved. Maybe someone have relevant schematic or BV.
Notebook was poured with coffee and someone already tried to fix it but as usual made jusy worse. I`ve restored all mobo defects and now it powers up, starts OS booting but hangs on OS logo. I believe missing part may... -
by DynaxSCHi,
I discovered a strange behaviour of GIGABYTE GA-H110M-S2 board.
General test conditions:
- Tested with Core i5 6500 and Core I7 6700K - no difference
- Default BIOS settings, but tried also altering several memory setting - does not change anything
What is wrong:
With BIOS F1 and F2 the board normally POST's and boots to Windows 11 with 2 x Patriot Viper Steel PVS416G440C9K RAM (4400MHZ, Samsung B-Die chips)
When BIOS upgraded to anything above F2 (ie. F20-F27b) the board POST stucks after 3 Debug Codes on Code C2... -

by momakaMore eBay specials: this time a Gigabyte GP-P450b 450W ATX PSU for $8 with free S&H. Listed “For part/not working”, as usual. Showed up in a beat up EVGA box without any padding… but that's understandable given the total price. PSU made it out fine without damage. It's a non-modular (yay!), pretty modern-day looking PSU with a black paint and all black cables (meh, not my favorite, but figure it's good to keep a few of these in case I do need one for a more modern PC build, just so my old gray boxes don't look too odd in there.)
And a shot of the label:... -
so i took out one of my spare gigabyte ep35-ds3r mobos from storage for use to do some cpu, ram and video card testing of stuff i bought from ebay and got for free from momaka. he bought 50 e8400 cpus for cheap from ebay some years ago and i decided to help him relieve him of some of his supply since he had waaaay too many!!
what did we say about hoarding too much stuff and depriving others of them?! *cough* socialism *cough* lol!
i had to blow some dust off the board and heatsinks with the datavac as i didnt clean it up before putting it in storage. after finishing...-
