    Bad capacitors on fake mainboards

When I found an article about fake Gigabyte mainboards, the article mentioned that the fakes usually use no-name brand capacitors, rather than Japanese units.

Do you have any fake mainboards with pictures of the capacitors?
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

How old/recent boards were that? Many GigaByte boards use craps like GSC and I believe they're not fake.

Why would a motherboard manufacturer, like Gigabyte, need fake motherboards?
      My gaming PC:
      AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition 3.3GHz Six-Core CPU (Socket AM3)
      ASUS M4A77TD AMD 770 AM3 Motherboard
      PowerColor AMD Radeon RX 480 8GB GDDR5 PCI-Express x16 3.0 Graphics Card
      G.SKILL Value Series 16GB DDR3-1333 RAM (4x4GB dual channel)
      TOSHIBA DT01ACA200 2TB 3.5" SATA HDD (x2)
WD Caviar Green WD20EARX 2TB 3.5" SATA HDD
ASUS Xonar DG 5.1 Channel PCI sound card
      Antec HCG-750M 750W ATX12V v2.32 80 PLUS BRONZE Power Supply
      Antec Three Hundred Mid-Tower Case
      Microsoft Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
      Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Re: Bad capacitors on fake mainboards

fake mainboards are made by the factory without permission from the mainboard company. there have been reports in the press of numbers 1000-5000 of such boards with brands gigabyte, soyo, asus. most of the reports were from quite a few years ago. they are reported to be typically sold at less than the market rate for the real boards but not suspiciously less.

i would doubt that they would be imported by big distributors/stores because they would usually be ordering a batch of a range of boards. i would consider it unlikely that the fake boards would be available in many different models.

nevertheless there were reports of these boards around the world not only in the local market where they were produced. the manufacturers became aware of the existence of the boards when people contacted them for technical support with invalid serial numbers.

there have not been reports of fake boards on the forum though so i dont think anyone here has come across them.

fake capacitors on the other hand is a different story.

Fake motherboards are rare in my opinion, and I think nobody has come across these fake motherboards, like willawake said.

I think no-name (also called generic) capacitors are very low quality. To test this, get some Powmax power supplies and put some of those JEE capacitors they have onto a computer motherboard that isn't important and run some long-term tests.

I heard that years ago too, back when I was playing with a Pentium 233...
