The article at Inquirer is easily verifiable.
I've never heard of Fudzilla.
I see you have.

by Perry BabinI have a situation where a power supply is commonly abused and the 12v supply caps take a beating. They don't commonly fail but they run hot. I was thinking about going from a liquid electrolytic (Panasonic FC and Nichicon HE) to an organic polymer. The values have been 330uF. I typically use a higher-than-needed voltage to get a lower ESR. The supply is operated from 12v.
If not organic polymer, what would be the caps that could take the most abuse?-

by momakaAaaaand… we have more retro-PC nostalgia repairs again.
This time it's with a XFX GeForce 6800 XT AGP video card. The XFX model number is PV-T42K-UDE3.
As with many early XFX cards, crap caps are the main issue here. The first one I bought and recapped was back in 2017. I've been meaning to post about it for a long time, but never got around to it due to the card needing a better heatsink/cooler to test it fully with the recap (more on that later on.) In the meantime, I acquired a 2nd one of these cards not too long ago (February.) Not like this makes any difference. Both... -
by eryjusHello,
First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.
I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.
I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

by momakaHere is another eBay XFX $9 special video card
with more blown Sacon FZ capacitors. This time, a GeForce 9600 GSO model PV-T960-SDFH V1.4, based on the G92 GPU core (96 shaders, 192-bit 768 MB of DDR2 RAM).
Overview front and back:

Let's see who does what – a cap diagram:
I think it should be pretty clear, but in case it's not:
…starting from the bottom (now we here?) right corner with the 6-pin PCI-E power connector, we have 12V power directly...

got a pny gf4 ti 4200 card off junkbay. it had some junk caps on it but they looked fine.
when i got it, i noticed they were canicon junk caps. eight of them on the top of the pcb. i first tried testing it in ubuntu. it worked fine on the 2d desktop. but when i tried running glxgears, it would constantly freeze.
so i had to boot windows to test it. when testing it in benchmarks, i noticed sometimes there would be some specific textures that were either garbled or corrupted. rather odd. upon further testing, i noted that the corruption occurs in a video memory overflow... - Loading...
