    Recapping MSI barebone, need help with odd cap

    Greetings everyone. Got this MSI barebone id like to fix, it had quite few caps blown/leaking so i thought id replace at least all the big ones and see if i can get it running. Will probably replace the smaller ones as well if i can just get it to post ok.

    Anyways im having a bit of trouble with selecting good replacements for the caps. Here is a pic of each of the 5 different caps. Think i identified the brand of them all.

    The oddest of the bunch is probably the OST , since its not listed in their datasheet. Its 8mm diameter and 14mm long. Anyone have any clue about what values to go for on that one? Found datasheets covering the rest of them so if i just had a good resource/list to look at and some pointers as to what values to look at i could probably figure the rest out.

    You can infer the specs from similar caps in the datasheet.

    ESR and ripple are related to the physical size of the capacitor.

    8x12mm is 0.05 ohms and 850 mA.
    8x20mm is 0.021 ohms and 1650 mA.

    so...using some math, 8x14 would be approximately:
    0.033 ohms and 1167 mA

    Rubycon MBZ 6.3V 1000 uF at 8x11.5mm is 0.036 ohms and 1140 mA - almost an exact match in specs.

    Rubycon MCZ 10V 1000 uF at 8x16mm is 0.021 ohms and 1850 mA and exceeds the specifications of the original.

    It looks like you removed some Panasonic FJ (Matsushita M logo) capacitors, and Rubycon MBZ. The Panasonics and Rubycon are usually very reliable and rarely need to be replaced.

      I agree they are reliable (panasonic and ruby), but since its a barebone, and also with an extra gfx card in the mix and barely any cooling i thought id change them just to be safe.

      Just measured the pictured panasonic, its at 1170uF 0.05 ESR, the ruby 437uF ESR 0.07. While not vastly out of spec id better be safe then take apart that barebone again, you wouldnt belive how hard it is to dig between the cables to take the board out

      Also i need to adress the cooling i think, but thats for another thread.

        hi all,

        first of all: i'm a (motivated) newbie, so please forgive me any stupid question i may or may not ask

        i'm currently repairing a projector: Epson EB-U42 that doesn't start (no lights, nothing).

        what i've found so far:
        - the PSU does its job and supplies 12V to the mainboard via the connector.
        - shortly thereafter, there is a mosfet (TS420-600B) where i can test 12V on the one side (in the data sheet this side is called Anode), Gate 0V, Kathode shorted to ground
        - not far away, there's the first cap with a resistance of 0.7 ohms....

        Dear reader

        I am performing a repair on a Sony ICF-SW55, which includes recapping (some) of the SMD capacitors on the mainboard. I am looking for verification of their values. At the moment, I'm 95% sure I've got the right values, but it is hard to find some official, credible or multiple independant sources on this.

        At the moment, I have selected replacements based on the following list of values:

        3 x 470uF 10VDC
        3 x 4.7uF 35VDC
        4 x 47uF 50VDC
        8 x 22uF 6.3 VDC
        1 x 220uF 6.3VDC
        5 x 100uF 6.3VDC

        Need help to identify and to locate a 0.33 ohms fusible resistor for power supply

        I have a quad charger that is split into 4 separate sections and one section doesn’t charge anymore. I have located what I think is a thermistor and on the shrink tube it says 125 degrees C. I cut the shrink tube and it's a 33 ohms resistor. It measures a little less than 1/2 inch in length. I am including pictures of it. Please help me identify it. So, it should test at 0.4ohms and probably go up in resistance with the rise in temp. On the board it clearly says R for resistor. But it has to be a special one.
        Resistor shows orange range silver gold and green lines.

        Hello Community,

        i'm troubleshooting this one since days and actually i'm really lost because i believe i'm Missing the required experience for an issue Like this...

        It is a Dell XPS 15 9560, i7-7700HQ, GTX1050 Board Number LA-E331P Rev 1.0, Most similar to LA-C361P so i use this Schematics.

        Issue: Starts and shuts Off after a few Seconds. Basic Troubleshooting (Adapter,RAM,BIOS/EC Flash from alisaler) of course already done, which didn't Changed anything.

        I have another working Board with i5-7300HQ and GTX1050, with It's Help i can compare...
