    3COM Switch

I have repaired this 3COM switch, it didn't power up.
At first I thought the UC3844B was dead so I replaced it. When I saw that the external PS to feed the IC was limiting the current at 0.3A, too much for the control circuit, I checked with scope the Vcc pin and I saw it oscillating.
I just put a 47uF 25V in parallel to the Ltec 33uF 50V and the power consumption dropped at 20mA and the voltage was a perfect line, on the PowerMosfet appeared the correct driving waveform.
Then I powered up the PSU and it started without any problem.
I checked the bad LTec and it was 457nF 1184Ohm, as shown in one pic.
I replaced the Ltec wit Rubycon 47uF 25V YXF.

    Here attached few pics.
It is a pity to see this PS full of good caps, Rubycon - UCC on secondary side and Hitachi as input bulk cap, failing for a small Ltec.

    Ciao

Isn't it a damn shame how a nice bit of equipment can fall due to crap caps....even the tiny ones?

I'll keep this in mind if I have any of my 3com stuff go out.....for now its been all smiles.

      Yes it is.
I remember in '90 we had a lot of failure due to a 100uF 25V mounted as filter on SG3524 Vcc pin, in that case probably the caps, the brand was ROE, were faulty.
The controller was on a redundant PSU with output +5V 25A, +/- 12V 6A, they were for industrial application and mounted inside this kind of cabinet.

I have the same switch and after a power failure it doesn't start anymore. I also replaced the 3844 but didn't work. I'm going to check this cap you mentioned , 4 years ago but thanks!

          3COM OfficeConnect Gigabit Switch 16

          3COM OfficeConnect Gigabit Switch 16 (3C1671600)

The switch has served me for 10+ years (was new when I bought it). It's a nice switch with connections on the back which makes for quite a clean desk. Reason for taking it apart was that the cooling fan was noisy so I expected it to be dirty/dusty inside and the need to order a new fan. What I found was that it was very dirty/dusty and some electrolytic capacitors which needs attention. There are 3 capacitors which needs to be replaced but the ESR on some of the other ones might be bad as well so I think I'll replace them all. Original...

          Micro Momentary Push Switch?
          by Natob82
Great to be here! I'm a newbie here trying to find a "micro", momentary push switch to repair a Sony "clamshell" video walkman. This micro switch has long since discontinued by Sony, however I hope there are third-party switches of the same size and functionality that I might be able to source to play the same role. The purpose of this switch is to tell the video walkman that the user has activated the mechanical tape eject button, turning that physical action into an electronic signal that tells the tape transport mechanism to open so one can load or eject a video tape. I...

NEC TurboExpress On/Off Power Switch Replacement Help
          by grimacelord
          Hello,

I've been working on a NEC TurboExpress and I accidentally got the plastic inside the power ON/OFF switch too hot while doing other repairs and melted it. At first, it would still power on when sliding the switch, but you had to really press inward while sliding to get it to work.

I removed the switch component and tried to gently melt the plastic back so it would work more reliably and all I managed to do was make it worse.

I need to find a replacement On/OFF switch for this, but having some trouble figuring out which kind of switch I need....

Help making a switch work the opposite way with a relay
          by SluggerB
I have a very small float switch, I'm using in a very small tank. It only fits in one way. Link https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-Switch.../dp/B07DZ1J2GB

I want the switch to be open when the water is high, and closed when the water is low. Unfortunately it works the opposite. And since this switch is designed to be underwater, it's all sealed up, there is no taking it apart or hacking it up.

It will be driving a water pump, basic idea, when the water is low, switch closes, which turns on water pump, when enough water is in the tank, float switch floats,...
