Making a sort of Agree and Continue upon joining network...

    Hello!
So I just set up a sort of guest network for my apartment building.
But I want to know how to do like they have at school:
Once you join the (unsecured) network it takes you to a login page where you need to supply a username and password before you can use the connection. Once you've sucessfully logged in all network services work like normal.

    How would I do this?
    Thanks!
    I'm using a Linksys 54G v.6 router with DD-WRT...
Overclocked Broadcom CPU from 200Mhz to 225MHz, and boosted Tx power from 71mW to 150mW...
To compensate increased power draw I used a Linksys 12V 1A power adapter instead of Linsys 12V 0.5A...

I haven't tried it personally, but this is probably somewhere decent to start:

These are generally called wireless access servers, you could also use the keyword "hotspot" in your searching.

Edit: More info for configuring DD-WRT with Chillispot: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Chillispot

Ah thank you very much! That is exactly the sort of thing I was looking for!
Now if Chillispot didn't have such an UGLY website, but that's the least of my worries... LOL!

        captive portal would work too.

I use it to stop infected machines using my internet while allowing the connection some privileges. For example it can't get on the internet unless I provide it some credentials but has access to my file-server, pxe boot server, and Windows Server Update Service.

          Home network connection problem
          by davg
I just bought a new ThinkPad laptop and I need to connect it to my home network. I have several computers on my network and can see each other in File Explorer and the older ones can communicate with each other (even with the new one) but the ThinkPad can see the other computers but can't communicate with them. I get the (network error 0x80070035 The network path not found). I tried several scenarios that I found on line but none of them worked?? Since the other computers on the network can communicate fine I'm assuming the problem is with the setup of the ThinkPad? All computers are running Windows...

Maximum speed should be marked on network ports
          by japlytic
I noted that a number of consumer entertainment devices have the maximum speed marked on the wired network port and considering that there are broadband plans faster than 100 Mbit, the wired network port can be a bottleneck since some routers do not have Gigabit (only 100 Mbit) support for the WAN port let alone the wired network ports.

One other thing: Certain low cost network cables only have two pairs which limits speed to 100 Mbit.

[SOLVED] 820-00165 corrupted network of some sort
          by iMuhtaseb
[SOLVED] -- I came in this morning and I installed the AirPort screw with a little push and it resolved the issue.

          Hello everybody!

I hope you all having a great day.

820-00165 came with a black screen problem; the computer would operate normally but sometimes it gets stuck in a black screen for some reason..
(I did not verify this issue when I turned on the computer until later on)
After disassembly and doing visual inspection I found Q1840 and U1845 had some corrosion on it and around it.. from the schematics I understood that this...

          HP 450 G1 Boot ask F1 continue F10 bios
          by Thermaltake
Hi, I got HP 450 G1 with boot problem always asking F1 continue F10 bios. I had bad battery on it and replace it with new one because it was giving me error 601. I was thinking that this F1 continue F10 BIOS has to do something with my bad battery, but when I replace it I was not having error 601 anymore but that message on boot with F1 continue F10 BIOS is still here. I tried to replace CMOS battery and reset bios, nothing. I tried to flash new BIOS but it already have latest one and I even tried to overwrite it, still same. Don't know what to do anymore. Does someone have any clue what this...
