    Recaping Linksys WRT54G v1.0

    Hi,

I have this old Linksys WRT54G v1.0 unit which uses 5v 2am supply.

It was ok for a year but a few months back, it took like 4 to 5 mints to boot. the lights came up and down. i thought it was psu problem but i didnt replce the psu. Now its does the same thing but takes like 15 to 30 mints to boot.

now tested it on another good PSU and the result is same, so i suspected the CAPS and opend up the router. The caps look physcaly fine but would like to replce them anyways. can u guys give me some alternatives to it.
    here are the caps.

Panny FM or FK should do the job. What country are you located in? That way, me or someone else could tell you a supplier.
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

Before you replace the caps, try this.

Once the router is up and running, reset it back to factory defaults. Leave it off for about 15 minutes and then try powering up again.

Also look for bad solder joints on the board.

          Check voltages on the caps.

They are probably actually on 5v or less which gives you more options in replacements.

No restriction, but i am student and the cost is much higher to get stuff online here, so like it will cost 14 euros to get the stuff here, and i think the same type of new unit will cost 25 to 30 euros.

And i have access to old mobo's, so salvage is best for me, i can get new parts from shop but they are very bad quality parts.

                          HERMEI LE 1000uf 16v are 1520 mA / .030 Ohm
                          Rubycon ZL 1000uF 16v are 1820 mA / .023 Ohm
                          - So that's an excellent choice.

                            Hi

Found these new caps for the 220uf 16v. are they good ?

                            1. 220uf 16v nichicon VR(M) 85c M9847 (same size)
                            2. 220uf 10v CE 85c S044 (with symbol L on it)

the 2nd ones are smaller but wider.

Both are only 85C and the 2nd is 10V. 10V might be sufficient for this application, but you should measure the voltage on the board to make sure it doesn't go beyond 10V.

Why not just get Panasonic FC

got the router working again, but it was not the bad caps, it was some kind of short in the mini pci express card it had. Gave the Mini PCI card a hot air treatment and its stable now. Thanks again for you help.
