    Emprex LM-2203 LCD

I need some help with this monitor. When it is powered on the CCL come on for just a fraction of a second. When I do the flashlight trick I can see a image so the LCD seems to be working. Also I got hold of a CCL PS and tested the lamps on this panel and they seem to be okay. Just as a precaution I re-capped the broad except for the very large cap. Same issue before and after the re-cap

PS Tried to UP some pics but it would not work

    THANKS for the help JOE

If it doesn't work, it maybe due to the server being moved in the last 24 hours and everything may not have been transfered over properly?

Anyways, good job of troubleshooting so far. Do you have a multimeter? If yes, check for open fuse, shorted transistors, open windings on transformers, bad diodes.

If you need help testing the above, please say so and we can post instructions.

What you are describing is 2 seconds to black and can be resolved given time, patience, and determination.

Do you have a multimeter? yes I do
If yes, check for open fuse - only one that I can see and it is fine
Shorted transistors - none that I can tell but not sure if any SMD are transistors
open windings on transformers - will check
      bad diodes - will check

This is the error I get when trying to UL

Some fuses on the boards are picofuses (labeled like pf501) or those SMD tiny fuses.

I can't do anything about the uploading of pics, but will have to hope that TopCat (the admin) sees this message and looks into it.

Maybe check for bad/cold/poor solder joints on the backside.

Benqs have a reputation for having bad solder joints on the inverters and need to be resoldered.

The only other Emprex LM-2203 posted here is back from January 2010 and there are no pics in that thread either. But they had the same 2 seconds to black problem.

I forgot to mention that your pic should be 2000x2000 of LESS. If it is bigger, that could be the reason it doesn't upload properly.

One minor point - it is very rare that an open fuse would cause the 'two second to black' problem. An open fuse would result in a 'zero second to black' failure.

Until the picture posting feature gets fixed (I notice problems also exist on threads with pictures previously posted), it will be very difficult to assist in troubleshooting these problems. About all that can be done is substitute a good CCFL in each position to see if the backlights stay on with a particular CCFL replaced.

I totally agree about an open fuse would cause zero second to black.

The only reason I mention is that I have a "in repair process" NEC 1700V monitor and I read this part from

                  http://www.electronicspoint.com/nec-...or-t75165.html

">>I checked those two fuses on the inverter
                  >>board, AOK. I don't think the screen
                  >>would even light at all
                  >> if those fuses were bad.

                  > Yes, it will if only one of them is bad. I've
                  > fixed several of these with that fault."

The NEC 1700V might be unique in that respect with 2 fuses on the inverter board? Of course, we can't tell without pictures of this Emprex LM-2203 LCD! :-)

Hmm, I'm not sure, but are those light blue caps from Radio Shack?

If they are, some here will have some not too kind words to say about Radio Shack caps.

I'm sure someone will ask for the part numbers on the back of the board. Probably IC 501 and IC 802.

                                      Re: Emprex LM-2203 LCD

I believe I have found the problem. I was able to borrow a CCL tube from a co-worker. I was able to use it as a substitute tube. The inverter has 4 outputs to the CCL tubes I'll call them A1, A2, B1 and B2. I started to sub the external CCL on each connection. on A1, A2 same result with lamp shutdown. However when I sub'ed on B1 the monitor came right up. I have the panel connected to a laptop and set as the only monitor. I have been running a monitor test program for almost 4 hours with no issues. And will continue to run it all night.

I think I can say the the CCL tube that connect to the B side has a problem. This happens to be the lower lamp (there are 2 lamp one at the top the other at the bottom).

So do you think my conclusion is correct?

The next question how do I spec out and get a complete replacement lamp?

                                      THANKS Joe

Before you order a new ccfl tube, try taking apart the one you have. Check to see if the tube is actually black or bad/cracked or if some solder/connection/wire is loose or bad.

                                        For replacements, you can try

                                        http://www.ccflwarehouse.com/

                                        http://www.ccfldirect.com/

email them the lcd part number and see what they suggest. I have no experience with either company.
