Hello i have a Dell e173fpf that will shut off once out of 5 times when i push the power button the green light comes on and the display comes on put then when the monitor warms up it will not shut off.

Check the secondary capacitors on the inverter you probably will find that they are bulged.

If so replace them with a reputable brand like Panasonic FC series from Digikey and you will be all set.

I recently recapped that exact same monitor removing the rear cover is a major PITA. There are no screws just plastic clips. To remove the back cover lossen the 4 screws securing the monitor stand to the back of the monitor.

Then get a flash light and look through the ventilation slats on the sides you will notice 2 black plastic clips on each side.

Now using a knife I used the bottle opener on my swiss army knife. I inserted the hook into the slat and pressed outward the casing will make a snap sound. Do the same for the other 3 clips on both sides.

Now using a knife gently pry upward along the casing and the clips will begin to release until the cover comes off.

Once you're inside loosen the screws securing the metal heat shield covering the inverter.
