Is there any way how to really fix LCD ribboncold joints? Or everything there is to do is only apply force by some foam or rubber to it?

Re: LCD ribbon, any way how to fix cold joint?
They are mounted with heat activated conductive glue
If the problem is between the ribbon and the glass face (no)
If it is between the ribbon and the circuit board of the screen. It's possible to solder them but would require removing it completely at that end, cleaning all the old glue off and some serious soldering skills. Can't just do one or 2 pins because the heat will cause the next ones to come loose and the old glue would get in the way of solder.
I did a couple on 30" LG screens -
Re: LCD ribbon, any way how to fix cold joint?
I have been thinking about heating the ribbon, can the old glue be resoldered without changing the glue itself? Not talking about technique how to do it, just if it is possible.
One LCD in question, ASUS VW220T, is incredibly hot in that area, probably the CCFLs are heating it so much. I bet some 60+ °C.Less jewellery, more gold into electrotech industry!Half of the computer problems is caused by bad contacts

Re: LCD ribbon, any way how to fix cold joint?
It can't be resoldered since it is not actually solder. AT least the ones I did were not solder. (you should be able to tell if it is by looking at the boards side contacts. If they are still gold colored then it is probably glue)
I tried reheating one once and it let loose and I could not get it to grab again once it let loose too far
I have tried with an iron and heatgun
This was a couple years ago, so I do not remember if I was keeping pressure down on the contacts using something like a utility knife blade.
I do this when I resolder them, so doing this while it is being reheated might work ???Comment

by MireniaHi everyone,
got an Acer Helios 500 Laptop (PH517-51) for diagnosing with a strange issue:
The laptop runs for a while (1-2 hours, sometimes less) and then suddenly shuts completely off, like someone pulled the power cord and restarts immediately after on its own.
If this happened once, then the laptop only runs for a few minutes until restart.
This happens regardless while staying in windows or uefi or in a linux environment.
At first I thought of a normal overheating issue, but as I monitored temps with HWInfo64, nothing seems very hot.

by Tr0llHi guys! I realized you have a lot of knowledge here so i am hoping you could point me in right direction with my odd issue.
The Tv is a Philips 58PUS8545/12, it had no picture but working backlights.
Original T-con:
Opened the Tv and tested to unplug one ribbon cable at a time. With this test i could see that i got fine picture on both halves as long as there was only one ribbon cable connected, with two connected picture were gone.
First replacement T-con:
I thought it might be t-con and ordered new t-con from china(supposedly tested)... -
by mitsu2kI know many folks on this forum warn against conductive glue and suggest removing it immediately upon site. I'm here to vouch and say these people know what they are talking about. To be more accurate, the glue isn't intended to be and doesn't actually start out conductive. It gets conductive as it is heated by components that get hot. The glue starts out to be a light tan color but as it is exposed to heat, it gets darker and darker until it is a dark brown. I have found that it becomes conductive at the point that it reaches a light brown color on darker.

by acedogblastThis is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.
There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as... -
by RubenlilyHey,
So I have horizontal lines on my TV and I'm trying to trouble shoot. My question about the ribbon is:
When I disconnect one ribbon from the t-con I should get half picture working and other half black or something like that correct? But when I disconnect the ribbon on one side I just get a dark screen and it doesn't matter what side I disconnect. I just get the dark screen. No half working, no one half black and the other one left. Sound is playing from the TV so it's obviously on and when both sides are connected I have the picture with the horizontal lines... - Loading...
