Samsung Syncmaster 940b - no backlight

Hi all. About a year a go I had the same problem with another monitor but never managed to solve it.

No here's one more of these at my desk.

Problem is the same, backlight is off, picture is there (tested with the flashlight), but this time i have wee bit more experience, and a better camera

So, there were 3 bulging caps and i replaced them all (with 1000uf instead of 820, but I have put 2x1000 and 1x470. Thing I have done many times, including few displays I still use, and it works). Rest of the caps look ok, but if needed i will replace them.
edit: I also replaced 2x1000uf 10v with 1000uf 16v (blue ones) that are salvaged capacitor from the device that worked but was useless)
It's a bit hard to find right capacitance and voltage combinations for the smaller ones, but i'll manage if needed.

So, connector that connects digital board and PCB has ON/OFF, DIM, 5.1v x2, GNDx3, 13v x 1, DIM.
I tested 5.1v and it's ok. But 13v is somewhere around 19v. Along the way on the CB I found one zener diode, tested it and it's OK. Rest of the line goes to 3 capacitors I replaces, few resistors (none are black, bulged or exploded), and a fuse that also looks OK.

Last time there was something about testing MOSFETS U202 and U203, but I can't remember the procedure. Mosfet labels are 4502C and both have 8 legs (4 of each side).

So here are photos of the PCB, as digital board is working (picture is there, with no disturbances as far as I could see).

I put that PCB into the scanner, so here's better versions of the both sides.

Also, here you can see the same pictures attached in bigger resolution for better detail if needed:

Fuse F301, right by the changed caps was blown. Changed it just now, but I still haven't powered on.

edit: after changing the fuse monitor is back in the game. Wonder if it will last? Voltages are OK, picture is ok.

Thanks! Never crossed my mind to search for my own opened threads O.o

Anyway, it's working now, and I'll leave it on and active for couple of hours to see if starts bugging on me again. If do, I'll test these MOSFETS

Re: Samsung Syncmaster 940b - no backlight

If the monitor is good now then the MOSFETs are working. The fuse likely blew due to an overcurrent condition produced by the bad caps, and the 19v reading you got was due to no load on 12v, since the inverter fuse was open. These monitors only regulate the 5v rail directly, 12v is designed so that the inverter puts enough load on it to keep it within spec.

              Thanks Unique! Damn good explaination.

All in all, display has worked for about 24 hours straight, without problems. I guess it's OK

Thank you all for this thread. I have just repaired my one by changing 3 caps a fuse. Had no backlit. It is not problem to find complete service manuals for this screen on the internet.

Samsung UE60KU6079 backlight okay mainboard responsive, no picture, no sound
                    by Ierwin
                    Hello everyone,
Ive got a UE60KU6079 on the workbench that is giving me some headaches trying to troubleshoot.
The previous owner stated that there had been white dots on the screen which from the description sounded like some lenses fell of the backlight LEDs.
He had opened the TV from the back, trying to get to the backlight, supposedly gave up, reassebled everything and gave the TV to me.
I expected the worst like ripped COF cables or a cracked panel but could not find anything like that yet.
Anyway I still fully expect that there has been something seriously damaged...

Symptom is dim backlight - this set came in with almost no backlight.

1 - Replaced all backlight LED strips (set had lots of hours at level 20 backlight)
2 - Changed out what appeared to be a bad Q9102C on BN44-00807E - not shorted or burned but appeared to be open. I was able to read (with difficulty) the part number - however I may have misread it - Can someone confirm that this is indeed an AOD9N40.

Backlight improved significantly - about like it would be set to a level 3 or 4. Setting all the way to 20 seems to...

                    Hi all,

Ok so I have this beautiful un55h8000 samsung tv with sound but no video nor backlight. When turning the set on the red light blinks 5 times.

The screen shows no damage and backlight turns on when I disconnect the power supply from the main board. The tcon board only has 2 out of 3 leds on.

I came across this page and followed the different steps: https://techhometravel.com/samsung-u...ight-no-video/
