DCLCD DCL20 (Scepter) 20" LCD won't turn on

    Hello,

A coworker was going to throw his monitor out but I said I would take it to see if I could fix it. He said that he was moving it from one room to another and then when he put it on his desk, the A/C cord wasn't plugged in it all the way when he turned the monitor on. Once he hit the power button, he heard a pop, saw a white flash come from inside the monitor, and then the monitor wouldn't turn on any more.

I took the whole monitor apart thinking I would see a popped cap or diode, but I see nothing that's popped, bulged, or burnt at all on the main power board.

Anyone have any idea what I should be checking for? I didn't see anything that looked like a fuse, but a fuse can look like anything now-a-days.

The monitor does nothing when it's plugged in and nothing when you press the power button, no blinking lights, nothing at all. I only inspected the power board, not the video board though.

I can take pics of the power board if someone could tell me where to start looking. I have limited knowledge of newer electronic parts but I'm very good at soldering and using a DMM.

For best picture quality and clarity take your boards to a window on a sunny day, turn flash off, and use macro mode. Take a top down view of all your boards (front and back). Make sure the photo is legible so that we can read the PCB printing clearly. A shutter speed of 1/125 or faster will produce nice clear focused pictures. Try to get a photo that is 2000x2000 resolution or as close as possible.

Here is an example of the pictures we want.

Also see my sig on how to attach the pictures.

If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

Fuses are marked with a "F" on the pcb board. An example, would be F100. A good fuse should measure less than 1.0 ohms. When measuring resistance, always turn off the power and have the device unplugged.

The next likely candidate to test is the bridge rectifier (marked BD). It has 4 pins. Measure the resistance between pins 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, 2-3, 2-4, and 3-4. Any reading under 30 ohms suggest a possible short (bad).

Both measurements above can be done "in circuit".

Sorry to bring up an old thread. I felt this lesson had to be shared.

I had this monitor sitting around for ages waiting for the opportune time to get re-capped. I finally got some 20mm 16V 1500uF caps (Originals are 25V 1000uF). I re-capped the thing, and voila! it works.

Problem is, the panel is cracked. Next time, I better pay close attention. It was discarded because of the panel, not because it didn't work.

If anyone needs some parts of this thing, let me know.

          AOC AG493UCX 49-inch monitor - Firmware request
          by wattage
          Hello Badcaps Community,

I purchased a preowned AOC monitor that is not working and out of warranty. It was sold as not working. I am looking for guidance on self-repair. In particular, I am after the firmware for the monitor. At the end, I have included monitor model information and links to pics and vids of the issue.

The problem is that it will not display a picture on any of its inputs. And the on-screen menu does not appear. The power button works properly. It powers on with the remote as well. But the on-screen menu does not appear, even when not connected to any...

I need help with my friend Sony GDM-FW900 24” CRT
          by matthewmcconaughey
Hello, Badcaps is my last resort. I am the first owner of the monitor. I reached almost every repair store in my area, but no one even wanted to hear about troubleshooting an old CRT monitor. At this point, I have been trying to figure it out by myself, but I have no idea where to start or look for.

I wish to know how to think and locate a failing component. I will put all my efforts to learn and contribute.
