    Another thing....
    Always use 105C temp rated caps.
    Given the same conditions they last much longer than 85C caps.

      Ok thanks so basically as long as the ripple rate is higher then you're good.

      Also the ceramic fuse says LF. T.2.5AH250V and is 5x20mm. I finally found them hidden under the odd 5.1 and 5.2 sizes. I'm guessing these are fast burn or are they slow?

        That one took some looking. Their site isn't laid out so well.

        LF = Littlefuse [the company]
        T = Time Lag [Slo Blo]
        2.5A = the amps
        H = Ceramic
        250V = the volts [obviously]

          Link saved. I was figureing the little F may have ment fast. This electronics stuff confuses me. So much stuff to learn. I really thank you and the others for taking the time to help people like me.

              Ya i figure might aswell grab one though so added it and a couple others. They one in mine was good also and the monitor powered up but going to wait untill i get the correct 470uf 25v cap to see if it really works..

                I've been using it for a few days now. Good colors, wish it was a little brighter though. All in all, definitely worth the effort saving it from the curb and the few dollars worth of caps. When I first turned it on, everything was a bit yellow, I had to muck around with the settings a bit and then auto adjusted it.

                  Mine would always auto adjust if you hit the button or not lol. The starting was a good sign so i have faith it will work. My main monitor is a dell 1800 something but i remember the viewsonic being way different. Right now i'm running a windows pc on avi and a linux box through vga on this dell and i can't wait to get back to dual monitors.

                  It's definitely worth it. It's just hard for people who don't know how to. I'd much rather see something reused or fixed than to end up on a trash pile or recycled for no real need. Waste not want not

                    The other cap arrived and i soldered it in yesterday. After assembling the monitor i plugged it in and it came on then hit power unplugged it and hooked it to a PC but it wouldn't coem on. I took the monitor back apart and i couldn't see anything wrong so tried again and still won't power up. Any ideas? The fuse is good and i don't see any picos.

                    On another note a pico fixed the dell 153fpb i had that was broke.

                      So have you replaced all of the capacitors now?
                      Does the monitor power up with thre VGA cable disconnected from a PC?

                      As for the Dell, I hope you resoldered the transformers for the inverter.

                        No I just replaced these.

                        3x 470uf 16v 8x12mm MCZ
                        1500uf 16v 13x17mm MCZ
                        470uf 25v 10x12mm FM
                        1000uf 10v 8x15mm MCZ

                        Nope and have even tried another power cable. It powered up with the zl in it and powered up with this one on the bench so not sure what went wrong from then to carrying it into another room. Even before i remember the power led coming on now nothing.

                        If these ceramic fuses are blown do they still show continuity?

                        On the dell ,yes i did plus some other spots that looked bad.

                          Check that none of the boards are shorting out on the metal frame, double check your solder joints.

                            I'm sure nothing is grounding other than what should be. There is plenty of clearance. I did notice some rings on the power plug but i think those are just mounting supports. I'm going to hit them after dinner ,put in new fuse and may try the CC KZE 470uf 35v. It's higher voltage but close on the specs at 23mohm 1.82a.

                              Take some pictures of the board front and back and post them here.

                              Also, if you were anyways ordering a different cap, you should have ordered something other than MCZ. Next time, post a list of the caps and their series, and then it can be cross-referenced to see what's a good replacement.

                                  You really should have used the proper series. You would have avoided this.

                                    Na the MCZ where the recap. I just used a ZL originally for the 470uf 25v which wasn't up to the spec that the bad EB's i was replacing were so i replaced it for the FM ya'll recomended.

                                      Just some clarification questions here. Assuming you have a computer hooked up to the LCD ...

                                      1) Does the power LED come on and stay green?

                                      2) Can you see the display if you shine a flashlight?

                                      Depending on how you answer 1 and 2, we will need readings from your multimeter.

                                          Carefully (high voltage alert) measure the DC voltage across the main filter capacitor (the big one).

                                          If you are in the USA, it should read 160V to 165V DC.

                                          Next, check the voltages at the multicolored connector on the power board. At least one of them should be a steady 5V DC. The 5V DC is what provides power to the logic board. If the logic board is not getting 5V DC, the power LED will never come on.

                                          You should see at least one other voltage on the connector. Perhaps 12V or 19V DC. The other pins are GND and probably BL/ON.
