Caps have a small resistance to current known as ESR (equivilant series resistance) Low-ESR caps are caps where that resistance is very low.

For this application, you could probably use Panasonic FC seires

It looks more like residue flux to me. Don't worry too much about it.

Also, what are the ratings on the caps? and what country are you in? That way I may be able to post some links to good replacment caps.

Yes, it's worth the approx. $10 in parts to try getting the monitor up and running. If the fuse tests good, there's no need to change it. Replace the 10 caps (except the large one, as they rarely fail) with good quality low-esr caps.

Howdy all, the famous 900G won't turn on. I've disassembled it and am pretty sure that the power supply is shot. I'm not sure how bad it is. I've attached pictures. The caps are bulging and obviously bad. I will replace those, and the F101 fuse as long as I know that this board is worth rebuilding. The way I see it there are 10 caps that all need replacing, the fuse, and I don't know what else.

I have plenty of soldering experience. I recapped a bad video card the other day and it works great.

    So, how does it look?

Thanks in advance for the help with this project.

PS- As I've read in other posts, (yes, I searched thoroughly) I was given this monitor and am interested in repairing it since it is a nice LCD that I could really use. I'd hate to throw it away!

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
    by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

    Assuming...

    Heathkit IO-4205 Power Supply Caps
    by eryjus
    Hello,

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

Help with switching power supply caps
    by captain150
I'm trying to repair two old VCRs, they both have bad caps. One has leaky ones, the other would barely run until I subbed in some caps from another power supply I had laying around (though they are the wrong values). This vcr works for an hour or two, but then the power supply starts whining and the picture gets lines in it. I didn't replace all the secondary caps, so another voltage might still be problematic, or the values I used are too far off.
I've been on mouser and digikey but the options are a bit overwhelming. I just need some new ones that will work. They don't need to be top quality,...

Samsung BN44-00262A H37F1-9SS power supply help finding blown value components!
    by cheeky2
This Samsung combined power supply and inverter was replaced a while ago from a Samsung 37inch LE37B530P7W TV. However I would like to repair this one.
I have replaced the Mosfets Q1820 and Q1821 ( FDPF7N50U) which were both blown and the fuse FM802S. The schematic for this power supply that is attached doesn't relate to this power supply as the driving transistors and diodes are D1830, D1831, D1832, D1833, Q1811 & Q1810 are nowhere on the schematic!
Does anyone know what the components for D1830, D1831, D1832, D1833, Q1811 & Q1810 should be? I ask as I did change the Mosfets...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
    by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...
