    Marantz 6002 CD player

This player seems to have a well known issue of not reading the T.O.C,the interesting thing is,given a push, the spindle motor will spin up and read, and play the same disc all day with no problems. It has had a new laser/mech assembly,so it's not a laser/motor issue.

Seems when there's nothing stored in the T.O.C memory,it won't work.
Anyone found a fix for this? ,Have three players, all the same issue.
    Many thanks,And any help appreciated!

What is "given a push"? Tray, spindle etc?
When the tray closes, you will see the focus lens move up and down as it hunts for a reflection from the CD, if present.

If the transport (focus offset or gain trimpots) are too far off, it does not work - as if the CD player's firmware only does a limited travel (scan) let's say -10 to +10. But too much offset/low gain in the transport electronics might shift it to -12 to +3, when the CD is at +8 so it will not detect it.

But after a "push" different firmware routine that may do a -20 to +20 focus hunt which is successful to find the focal point. I'm just wildly guessing based on what happened when I've fixed some CD players. I don't know the 6002 but look at the trimpots on the main board and do a focus calibration.

      Thanks for the reply,
It's the spindle motor that's given the "push", it's as if there's not enough current to drive it properly,But only when there's nothing stored in the T.O.C.,Once that's been read,it will play fine straight from the "stop" position.I shall have a look at the calibrations,in the meanwhile. Thanks !

Marantz DV7000 dvd / cd player switching off
          by aarty
          Hi there guys,

Just wondering if anyone out there has had issues with a Marantz dvd/cd player. When you switch it on it says "welcome" then goes to standby. I have checked the usual cd switches for door and sled and they are working as they should. Voltages seem ok. A couple of voltages should measure 12v but are 11.5v, which I don't think should be a big deal. I have checked the caps ESR and they are fine. Next I will check capacitance as now I getting desperate.
I have also checked the "test" mode 1 and 2. Test mode 1 is ok. But I find test mode 2 doesn't...

Karavision PRO KP-8800 wont read burned DVD.
          by triplefour
a friend of mine brought me a Karaoke Machine that was somehow damaged in shipping and will no longer read the Burned DVD that was in it when it was shipped. they swear up and down that it used to read that DVD just fine. The drive was making all kinds of horrible noises and wouldn't read any discs when i started working on it. after cleaning the lens and adjusting the spindle it will read regular CDS now but still wont read any burned CDS or DVDS or even regular DVDs. is this the proper place to ask about this?
cause its a video karaoke machine... not strictly "audio equipment"...

The disc spindle motor will not spin on this unit. The motor has 2.5v on both sides and does not change.

I have a second unit that works 100% that needed a recap. I tried the PSU before and after the recap. No change. I swapped the video board that has all of the ICs on it and it still wont spin. I injected 2.5v into CN2 (the motor connector) and the motor spun.

The pickup assembly moves back and forth. The laser appears to light up, although it doesn't look like any newer laser diode with a well defined dot in the center. I can see red light refracting off the lens...

          NAD CD/DVD Player T-513 Problem !!
          by guizmo1967
          Hello,

I have a NAD T-513 that always display DISC Err, no matter what kind of CD I use.

I change the optical laser pickup, it was only 20$, I had nothing to lose, but it did not solve the problem !

          My question is:

On a good working CD player, is the RPM always constant, because on mine, it goes up then down, up then down repeatedly ???

I check the VCC pins of the Motor Drive IC (LA6560) and +8V is present. But one thing I notice, this IC gets hot really fast ???

Do you think LA6560 is bad or the spindle motor ??...
