Thats strange? what are the voltages on the input. It was an all plastic 7912 correct?

Weired, I now have 8-10v on the chassis with just the negative lead on it, getting 0v on the new 7912

O.k.You DO need that -12volts, so it might be a pain to trace the fault , but it is starting to look like a bad op amp ic?
After closer inspection that -12 goes to quite a few places

So what is the voltage on the 7912 now? If it is still low there must be something loading it down. or it could be the cap (C1088) on its output is bad.
-12 volts supplies VIDEO (10) board, unplug CB383 and see if the -12v comes up.
-12 also supplies one side of the relays on (page 141)
The -12 also goes to the op amp ic's on (page 137) and elswhere

    Re: Another Yamaha

It is an all plastic case, correct?

It does'nt need to be a KIA any xx7912 should be ok, It is a total plastic case to220, so you should replace it with the same type. Most to220 have the metal tab exposed so when monuted it would short to the heatsink
The tab is connected to the input pin so it must be isolated from the heatsink

Having trouble finding those here in the U.K.
Does it have to be an exact KIA7912P or can it just be a 7912 negative 12v TO-220 ?

Yes, replace it, be sure to get a 12 volt negative regulator 7912

I guess the next step is to replace it and see what happens ? Or is there more to check ?

Quite a lot going on inside there, it's more complex than I expected

Ok, that's better. I just wanted to be sure R1238 was ok.
Here is what is inside of that negative voltage regulator ic.
I am sure the ic is bad, If there was something loading the -12 volt line I suspect the voltage would be 0 and not -6volts

I tested across each, sorry, it was -18 ffs
    Ok, each to ground:
    C1076 -18.74
    R1238 -18.77 and -20v other side

    Re: Another Yamaha

You should be getting NEGATIVE 18.75 on C1076, and R1238 is connected directly to C1076 so how do you get a different voltage on it?
You should have -18 volts on both sides of R1238

    C1076 18.75v
    R1238 1.4v

It was a suggestion from someone else, as they were 5v regulators.

Of course not, they are different voltage regulators (see schematic) IC334 +5 volt 4 pin regulator. IC457 3pin +5 volt regulator, again not the same.
How would you check ic102 out of circuit? do you have an adjustable bench power supply?
Look at the data sheet for a kia7912 and you will see what is inside.

should the voltages of ic334, ic333, ic457 be similar?

Should I take out ic102 and test I out of circuit ?

Yamaha RX-V3900 dim display and turns off
    by Sinnyone
    Hi all,
This is a repost since I never completed this fix. I just left it, but now the receiver powers off into safe mode and does not complete the Self-Diagnostic when i start with those buttons pushed. It says it is, but does not do the diagnostics and does not show any faults or that it has none, which it should do. So here i am again. The previous post did have a schematic but I think it was cut off somewhere. I do not know what board it is referring to. Any help would be appreciated.

I have searched through the forums and have not found anything about my problem. So,...

Yamaha YST-C10 stereo capstans run for 10 min when unit is turned on
    by nzphil
I have a Yamaha YST-C10 mini-stereo that was made around 1990. It has two cassette decks, a CD player and an AM/FM tuner. When it is turned on in tuner mode, the cassette deck capstans normally run for about one second and then the radio will begin to play. Currently, however, the capstans run continuously for about five minutes followed by running intermittently in two second bursts for another five minutes. The radio will play softly when the capstans stop during the intermittent phase. After about 10 minutes of this, the capstans stop completely and all the stereo functions work fine.

Help Needed: Yamaha RX-V485 Network Issue After Firmware Update (WN9711 Error)

    Hi everyone,

I'm facing an issue with my Yamaha RX-V485 receiver. During a firmware update, the process failed, and now the USB, Bluetooth, and network functionalities are not working. Occasionally, the receiver displays the error code WN9711.

I came across Yamaha Technical Bulletin No. 0103, which describes a similar issue for models like the RX-V4A, RX-V6A, and RX-A2A. According to the bulletin, the issue can be resolved by shorting soldering points (e.g., J260 for RX-V4A or...

    Yamaha RX V675 sound issues
    by jjne
I have an old Yamaha RX V675 receiver which is starting to develop issues with the sound, although it doesn't quite match up with what folk normally report with these.

From cold, the sound cuts in and out. When this happens the amp is losing sync with the optical input (speaker graphic disappears from the front panel). But this is not resolved by putting the unit into pure direct mode. After a couple of minutes this resolves, although there are occasional clicks from the speakers after that.

At first I thought it was either a speaker relay or the DSP, but I don't think...
