Home cinema JVC RX-ES1 (RX-ES1SL) repair, protection, Surround Left mystery

Since 2009 I've had three units of these for repair. All the same nightmare of wasted time.

This home cinema has 5 independent modular digital amplifiers. Symptom is that it doesn't start, it returns to Standby in a few seconds without showing anything on display. F205 fuse blown (1,6A). If you replace fuse AND disconnect CN703, it starts OK, with no sound, of course, because you have removed ±B from digital amplifiers.

One of the digital amp modules (which are interchangeable) is short or about to short. The interesting part is that in all cases I've found, the culprit is the Surround Left module.

Too hard to repair these modules. Inside each there're 4 TO-263 (SMD) IRF530NS mosfets soldered to a 2mm thick solid aluminium PCB (!). I gave up to try to unsolder them, I don't have powerful enough tool. The complete modules were never sold by JVC, only component level repair. Thanks, great spare parts policy!!

In one case I was able to scrap one module from an aborted unit and this wasn't enough. On base board there're two big coils and several caps per channel. At least one coil was bad, almost exploded its ferrite cover. After replacing everything, the unit lasted one year before ending the same way, same channel.

The only solution was to extirpate Surround Left module. It's been about a year since that, no returns (this doesn't mean anything, you know).

Now I have another unit, same bad channel (not short, but I can see a toasted 47Ω SMD resistor [R1825] on that channel, I don't need more clues). I won't be silly this time: kick out Surround Left module and good bye.

For illustration purposes only (not my pictures), I attach a general view of this thing (see 5 amp modules to the left), and a view of the aluminium PCB with 4 mosfets. Inside each module there's also a daugherboard with its driver.

I just repaired same amplifier with that problem (but Central Speaker Power Amp Module). The cover of one coil was pushed up. I just unplugged that modul and everything is working. Btw big thanks to creator of the topic. 6 years after his problem, he helped a lot.

Running out of Ideas, hoping someone smart can provide some for my ONKYO TX-SR353 Receiver
      by CDNBrewer
      Hello Everyone,

I have an Onkyo TX-SR353 Audio/Video Receiver (5.1 ch with HDMI) that I am having a really hard time diagnosing and I'm about to throw this in the junk and go buy a new unit that is on sale until the 7th.

      Symptoms:
      • Intermittent (part of the reason why i'm having a hard time isolating problem), sometimes will work for 10+h at a time without issue
      • Original symptom was wife reported loud banging noise (like someone was banging on the wall with their fists) from the LEFT SURROUND speaker and then the unit shut off.
      • I swapped the Left and Right surround

Denon AVR 1908, High pitch noise on Surround back Left channel after long overhaul
      by karatzdi
      Hello,

I know some might say... just buy another one. Sell it as parts..!

So had this AMP for quite some time. Recently I saw light smoke coming out of the AMP. Had my fire extinguisher close by. Just kidding. Turned immediately all devices off from mains.
Let things cool a bit, and opened up the amp device. I clearly saw on the main board which hosts the 5X amp (5.1), 3 10 ohms 1W resistors had their leads looking black, while the rest of the remaining 2 x 10 ohms were brownish as being installed from factory.

Spent some time downloading the Service...

      Vizio M60-C3 Left Edge problem
      by Pinky Deepak
I have a M60-C3 where the left edge has started showing issues as seen in the picture attached. Along with this, I also noticed some darkening on the left half of the screen which went away after I left the TV unplugged. i initially thought it was the led backlight that was wearing out but looks like something to do w the TCONN board. I searched this forum but couldn't find anyone else seeing this issue. most of them were LH/RH completely gone. any insights or guidance is appreciated.

Here's a video of both the issues: https://youtu.be/hMqc760nB3o

Ram Modules with undderfill - tricks for desoldering
      by ongobongo
I'm working on another Lenovo E14 gen 2 AMD here which has a ton of errors with the factory soldered DDR4 ram chips. I do have a donor board here from which I'd like to use the modules and swap them. Unfortunately, the modules are glued down with underfill, which i have never worked with before.
I tried with a lot of heat on the donor board but the modules won't come loose.
Are there any hint or tricks when it comes to dealing with underfilled chips/ic that could help here
      Thanks

Panasonic Tx-40cx400b top left half screen not displaying correct
      by armoured_smiler
      Hi,

Trying to work out if this is TFT problem or TCon issue.
The TV powers up but the top half of the screen, from the right it is OK, but as you look across to the left halfway across it starts get duller and duller until it is very dark on the lefthand side, currently I trying to clean the remote as it seems to have something film wise on the pads stopping it from registering buttons pressed.

Also when changing the screen size of Windows PC display to say to a smaller pixel sizewindow, the original window displayin the top left stays/takes a few seconds to disappear?...
