    USB sound adapter?

Hi guys i was able to revive this SF E machines Tower EL1330 AMD ATHLON 2850E,after i repaired Power Supply but there is no sound due to integrated sound circuit on the motherboard being damaged missing components and broken circuit, everything else is find,it came with Win7 , already upgraded to win 10,now i need sound, i found out that i can get an USB sound card, will this SYBA Multimedia - USB Stereo Sound Adapter work or any other? i really don't want to spend much money,no need for great sound, just sound.

    Re: USB sound adapter?

    1) Does it need to be brand new?
    2) Does it need to be USB?

I'm just thinking, if you only need a noise-maker, some junky old pci sound card oughtta be more than enough, and those should be dirt cheap in some surplus stores or whatever

Or if the question was (only) "Will this Syba work?", if they have Win7 drivers on their website, i don't see why it wouldn't

Have used usb sound cards many times for customer computers with bad onboard sound. They work well.

            Here's one that's cheaper http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-2-0-Audi...QAAOSwFnFV9T59

And you can get sound cards that go in the PCI Express slot. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=sr_1_8&sr=8-8

              It looks like the motheboard has a pci-e x16 or x8 and a pci-e x1 slot.

You should be able to plug a pci-e x1 sound card in that slot, but i can't tell if the system requires half-height cards or they fit regular cards.

Go on eBay at the internal sound cards section, select pci-e x1, then search for "low profile" and you'll find plenty of good cards.

              For example, see http://www.ebay.com/itm/PCI-Express-...YAAOxy4jxSHw-4

USB adapters are of less quality and use more resources than such internal cards, it's worth spending a bit more to get internal cards.

if you have a regular pci slot, get a used soundblaster5.1 card for almost nothing

they use almost no cpu unlike other solutions because they have onboard processing and the sound is real good when tested side-by-side with other lesser junk.

                  ----edit
just saw that foto, too bad.
i could never own a board without pci - too many cards use it to not have atleast one.

Go to a place where they recycle old computer crap or something. PCI sound cards are everywhere and even the crappiest one is gonna be better than a USB sound adapter. You shouldn't have to spend a nickel. Don't you have any nerd buddies or relatives with old dead PCs?

The motherboard on that computer has only pci express slots.

I doubt the motherboard is not working because of missing components.

If the audio is not working, it is because of that GeForce 6150 chipset going bad, as I mentioned in your other thread. You need to put a fan on or near it. Otherwise, that motherboard will die sooner rather than later.

And also get a dedicated video card while you are at it. Nothing fancy required, just something to off-load CPU use for online browsing, like Radeon HD3450, HD4350, or HD5450... etc. It would help that GeForce 6150 run cooler too.

As for audio... those USB things would take a more CPU resources than necessary. But if you really are on a budged, I suppose you could try them. I personally don't have any experience with them, so I can't recommend them. Too bad the motherboard doesn't have regular PCI slot.

Hi momaka the sound amp is damaged and there are board traces in the corner where the board is cutoff beyond repair, those traces get the sound to the output jacks.

i received the Sound adapter today and i'm impressed eventually i get better sound than if it were from the integrated sound amp,i have 2 speakers without amplification and i get plenty of sound,
and it was so easy, just put the adapter in the USB port turned on PC and voila good sound,so far so good, and it was cheaper than if i get a PCIx1 SF Sound card.
and it works great with Win 10.
