Denon AVR-3805 rcvr, no digital inputs, analog only on display

It never rains but it pours... :-)
Just finished with a successful save of a sharp 70 in aquos tv, thanks to this forum. I was shuttling back and forth between the "tv work area" and computer room where the denon works. I was playing with a video test disc looking at some patterns and playing some of the various intro files for THX and Dolby screens when the denon suddenly stopped putting out any sound. The volume level was normal / medium at around -8db on the display.
Looking at the display on the receiver, the "AUTO" for the input was lit but only "ANALOG" is displayed for the incoming format. It was previously indicating "DIGITAL". The unit didn't shut down, it just stopped outputting sound. The denon is connected to the dvd player via a coax digital input. Replaced the cable, no change.
Reset the receiver a number of times (main power and hold on the two "direct buttons" on the front panel).
After re-assignment of digital ins, no change... no digital sound.

Analog sound inputs work fine, two channel of course. Further, went into the speaker setup and ran the audio test tone output. Sounds is directed to each speaker accordingly so the test tone section, which I assume is digitally generated, is working.

It would appear that the digital input board has some issue. I haven't found a service manual yet for this unit so at this time, I am running "blind". Suggestions on where to look on the unit to do some preliminary checks. Thanks for any guidance.

Editing change: Further testing: The denon is also connected via optical cable to the output of a tv (to play sound coming from the tv's OTA input back into the receiver's speaker system). I switched to that, there is digital sound detected. I then tried a different dvd player with coax digital output into the denon. Still no sound. It appears that the two coax digital rca inputs are not functioning. What is so special about the coax digital interface versus the optical digital interface? Any protection circuitry?

Re: Denon AVR-3805 rcvr, no digital inputs, analog only on display

    :-(
It appears that the denon is actually working fine. I seem to have two problems elsewhere. A flakey coax rca cable (single) and a dvd player that has some issue with its coax out. So please disregard this thread in terms of a denon issue. Not sure how it can be pulled, but if a moderator is watching, feel free to delete this thread.
Sorry for the poor testing before posting.

Marantz SR5007 popping on volume change and mute in Direct Mode
      by BigOof
      Hi,

I bought a used Marantz SR5007 and it's giving me some issues that I can't seem to really place. It functions well in most settings, ARC mostly works, it has no issues driving my speakers in any of the digital input modes, but I'm having issues running analog inputs in direct or pure direct mode. For some reason in this mode there's distortion for every volume increment I give it, but once the volume is stable it has no issues. Muting creates a loud pop, switching to another source also causes a pop and so does turning off the amp in that mode. Again, no issue in the digital modes....

Sony STR-DE445 did I get a faulty IC?
      by goodpsusearch
Hello, I got this AVR for cheap and tried to fix it as a fun and learning project.

First the audio video receiver would turn on but had no sound at all, but no "PROTECT" message.

So, I opened the metal case and noticed some marks showing that some liquid has been spilled on the amp. Those water marks were found on the main board and the digital board.

I disassembled everything, then checked every single cap on every board of the amp and recapped when needed.

Also fixed A LOT of cold solder joints and also done some modifications,...

Denon AVR-X3600H No sound even to pre outs in direct analog mode. Help please!
      by FuzzyOwl
Hi, I have a Denon AVR-X3600H I'm trying to repair. I have no electronics repair experience but I have a multimeter, service manual and a will to fix it (https://device.report/m/d5de8c00e617...f63147aba9.pdf)

Everything seems to work except for no sound even through the pre outs. However I will get sound using Zone 2 pre outs.

Only digital symptom I can tell is it will soft lock when in the Speakers/Test Tone menu and be unable to adjust +/- db during the test tone.

I've followed the trouble shooting guide, audio check...

ElectroVoice ETX-18SP (powered Subwoofer) damaged after lightning strike
      by pfl
      Hello Everyone.
This powerful amplified subwoofer doesn't make any sound after lightning striked near the house were it was plugged in.
      It consists in :
      • a power board were the full H bridge class D amplifier and main power rails are located
      • a preamp board (ref. F.01U.299.771) receiving 2 symetrical inputs(IN1, IN2), a digital chain (A-D converter -> Digital Signal Processor -> D-A converter) and a micro controler in charge (at least) of the human interface (lcd display and 1 rotating button)
      Power rails are ok.
      human interface is working fine
      Input levels are...

      Denon 3313CI Distorted Audio FL+FR
      by ajvpb
      Hi all,
Hobbyist repairman here so I've reached the end of my troubleshooting abilities. The audio out of the FL+FR speakers is very distorted and almost unintelligible. BUT! That only applies to digital audio; Analog plays through just fine. The distortion carries to headphones if those are plugged in with audio from a digital source. All other speaker channels play fine regardless of digital or analog.

Previous experience with similar distorted audio has been bad resistors on the amp output - Could bad smd resistors on the hdmi board cause the same problem? My understanding...
