    Onkyo TX-NR626 & TX-NR636 Resistor Question

I have a question on replacement resistor in Onkyo receivers.

The Service Manual call for this
    R6073 NON-FLAMMABLE CARBON FILM RESISTOR R25J-120

I am having a hard time finding a flameproof carbon film resistor I need several values can I use a metal film in place of the carbon film.

If not any suggestion on a source for the flameproof carbon film?

    Thanks for the help.

    Re: Onkyo TX-NR626 & TX-NR636 Resistor Question

What part of the circuit uses the resistor? The only thing special about carbon film is it can take massive overloads for short periods. Oh, and they make a lot of smoke and fire when they burn...
I've never seen flameproof carbon resistors, it's probably a typo in the manual. I see that a lot- fusible, flame-proof, metal film, carbon film mixed up in translation.
I would use a flameproof metal-film, or fusible if it's safety related.

      Re: Onkyo TX-NR626 & TX-NR636 Resistor Question

These are in the pre-amplifier & amp section.

The do look like they could be carbon film.

I will be selling the unit once repaired and I want them to be right.

I have the service manual if you would like to look at it.

      Thanks

        Re: Onkyo TX-NR626 & TX-NR636 Resistor Question

I believe metal film are better in almost every spec except for surge power handling. Some audiophiles prefer their (carbon) vintage sound.
        Metal film resistors have better:
        Lower Noise
        Long term stability
        Temp coefficient
        Resistance tolerance

PM me the service manual and I will check why these are spec'd.

Can you please share service manual if it's available. I'm trying to fix my receiver myself but could not find the manual
