    Aiwa MX-Z3000MK

I have a problem with an amplifier, when turned on the display won't come on, the led on the volume lights up and if connected to the rest of the seperates those power on too. The amplifier also locks up, if I keep turning it on and off, the display with eventually come on by slowly brightening up but it's still locked up and only displaying what it would at the very start when it's turned on.

I applied a heat gun near some capacitors, diodes, resistors and a transistor, after heats applied the unit functions correctly unless it's left to cool down. I thought it might be a cap issue so I replaced 3 of those but the problem persists.

To me it's like something is slowly building up to the point where it's at the right value to function. Could it be the transistor?

    I'll take a picture shortly.

I changed the 2 larger capacitors and the smaller black one near the larger one.

Sorry the quality of pictures are not very good, I'm having to use another camera.

On second thoughts the heat applied might have been coincidence, when I turn it on the display is dark but if I just leave it, it slowly lights up.

Components warm up when energized so your initial assessment is still valid. It might be easier to find with some freeze spray and approach it from the opposite direction; if a part works when heated, when cooled it would stop working. It could be a bad solder joint expanding and making contact when heated too.

I too thought it may have been a bad joint but I couldn't find anything and I did re-do all the ones in the area I suspected it to be. I don't have any freeze spray but I'll be purchasing some as it's not the first time it would have come in handy.

Could the actual power supply be at fault? it wouldn't make sense for it to be at fault to me but I quite well be wrong, when all the separates are connected they light up, even when the amp has no display and function correctly so surely that's an indication if the power supply being perfectly fine?

What other components would work once they've heated up?

It could be anything. Any component can have temperature related problems. That's why you need the freeze spray. You were heating up the power supply section so yeah, I would suspect it's something there.

I meant the transformer itself, it wouldn't be that would it?

You can use canned airduster upside down as for cold spray.

I'll pick some up today and hopefully it will help me figure out what's at fault. Should I use it while the units powered on? or turn it off, spray and turn it back on?

                      Aiwa GX-770 Amplifier Protection Circuit
                      by waspie
I am by no means an expert on this type of troubleshooting but I can follow direction real well.

I'm no stranger to using a meter and soldering iron so I'm looking for some help in fixing an old amplifier/system I got. This is part of a system "V-1200" by Aiwa where there are several components. My first problem seems to be the amplifier.

It seems to be in protection. When first turned on I hear the inital relay coming on but never the second relay which is connected to the protection IC. I don't see any obvious bad components on the board. If I ground the...

Polk Audio RTi100 Plate Amplifier won't power on and intermittently honks and buzzes
                      by MrCommunistGen
My childhood best friend was killed about 9 years ago. His parents are finally letting go of his things, and they offered me his Polk RTi100 tower speakers. The Polk RTi100 towers are one of a handful of designs from the early 2000s that is a full range 3-way tower with a built-in self-powered subwoofer. This is accomplished with a plate amp integrated into the speaker input panel.

I think they used them for a while, but they've been sitting for at least a few years now. After about 40 hours of driving to their house and back (both they and I have moved in the last 9 years) I got...

How to test Subwoofer Amplifier with only a multimeter
                      by jinu_j
                      Hi Folks

Need some advice on how to test a subwoofer amplifier if i have access to only a multimeter.

                      Problem
I have a Boston Acoustics active Subwoofer (soundware S). Its rated output is 200W. But the output i am getting is very low i can barely hear/feel it even if put the gain at max. I replaced all the capacitors in the Subwoofer amplifier but still no change.

Is there anyway to test this without getting an oscilloscope/Function generator to see if the fault is with amplifier, driver or the source??

                      Any advice would be appreciated...

                      Mackie CR4 amplifier no sound
                      by UserXP
                      Hi, people.

I've got an amplifier assembly from Mackie CR4 parts. It's just an amplifier, there was no speaker housing, so I used my set of CR4s to test it.

Anyway, upon connecting everything and hooking the "new" amplifier to an audio source, the sound played clearly and strongly for the first ten seconds. I was happy it was working. Then the sound started to fade out during the playback until it was no more. After it had "dropped to zero", there were two very short intervals of sound playing at the normal volume, as if the amplifier was trying to...

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
                      by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...
