What type of capacitors have they used in that unit? Just did a cheapo mini system, all crappy caps rated at 85degrees. Would go to startup and then just crash back to standby.

I would suspect the output ic could be bad. see if you have any dc voltage on the relay contacts that go to the speakers, you want to check the amp side of the relay, If there is any dc the protection circuit will cut in shutting the amp down.
        Just a guess.

I replaced the output ic before christmas but I was unable to reply because I am having a problm with my computer.I removed the output ic from curcuit and then powered up the receiver and discovered that it did not shut down anymore.I therefore installed a new output ic and the problem was solved.A friend lone me a laptop yesterday and therefore I was able to reply to your post.Thank you very much for your reply.

            Sony Receiver STR-4800SD L/R Balance
            by sretchko
Hey fellow solder fume lovers, I have a Vintage Sony Receiver STR-4800 SD that has me stumped.
The Balance Pot has to be set at about 30 degrees (11 o'clock) to the left for the output to be balanced (see photo). I'm using an oscope, sig gen 1kHz sine, 8 ohm dummy load).

When output is balanced (11 o'clock left) both channels clip at about 19 vac / 45 watts RMS, Amp is rated at 35 watts so I know the amp modules are good. Square wave also looks good when turning bass & treble pots and is in phase.

I pulled the balance pot, (Dual 10K MN Taper) cleaned with...

PS5 Disc Not Supported/ Disc Not Recognized Board Num: EDM-020
            by Junior††

            Good Afternoon fellas,

            Issue:
Disc is showing as not supported when a disc is put in.

Here's what I've done, you can skip this if you just wanna know the question:
            - replaced with a disc drive from a donor ps5 (honestly questionable if this is known to work)
            - reflowed the disc drive connector
-reflowed the chip in question (shown on image)
            - I will say this console was very dusty so it's conceivable that it got so hot that it made the chip joints cold and potentially other things on the board

            Question:
            I...

Sony str-dn850 home receiver no left channel.
            by erickeri1234
Ok start off by saying I have some tv repair but not much on the receiver end.
Picked up a Sony str-dn850 home receiver when I first plugged it in powered it up it came on and the system check relay clicked and about 3 seconds later it went into protection mode.
I powered it off and on. Comes on no problem.
Hooked up speakers and it started to pop and crackle but the volume was all the way down.. and I was only getting that sound out of the left channel. Right channel had no sound.. but every time I turn the volume up it has a smell crackling sound on ever volume number......
