    TDA2822M based amplifier

    i have a cheap project kit based around the TDA2822M IC from ST Micro. and was wondering about the effect of 4.7uF polymer capacitors placed in parallel with the 470uF capacitors, as i replaced the capacitors near the input with polymer caps and the sound quality improved markedly.

    i also replaced the stock 470uF capcitors with Panasonic FJS caps.

    if anyone has some decent links to the use of these capacitors it would be immensely appreciated too...

    yeah, i know its bad, but its something to tinker with and figure out why it sounded so bad stock

    Also, what would the effect of substituting the 470uF caps for 1000uF caps? P.s. i'm using 3 ohm LG speakers

          The link you gave also has some pdf files with good information.

          Can't figure out what you're talking about with those 4.7uF capacitors, don't see anything like that in the circuit and schematics.

          The 470uF capacitors are on the output, to prevent speakers from blowing up due to the idle voltage.
          The capacitance there is like a low pass filter, anything below some frequency (let's say 00 Hz) gets removed.
          Higher capacitance there just means you'll get more low frequency noise, more bass.. but depending on the quality of the amplifier the extra sound could be just garbage.

          The amplifier chip is not so good that you would notice the difference between capacitor types on the output, I suspect it's just placebo or something like that.

            Thanks for your input mariushm, is there anything that would change the sound quality? I feel it sounded better after i changed the two 100uF caps, as it does give me a weird feeling listening to it. Just curious.

              How to test Subwoofer Amplifier with only a multimeter

              Hi Folks

              Need some advice on how to test a subwoofer amplifier if i have access to only a multimeter.

              Problem
              I have a Boston Acoustics active Subwoofer (soundware S). Its rated output is 200W. But the output i am getting is very low i can barely hear/feel it even if put the gain at max. I replaced all the capacitors in the Subwoofer amplifier but still no change.

              Is there anyway to test this without getting an oscilloscope/Function generator to see if the fault is with amplifier, driver or the source??

              Any advice would be appreciated...

              I've got an amplifier assembly from Mackie CR4 parts. It's just an amplifier, there was no speaker housing, so I used my set of CR4s to test it.

              Anyway, upon connecting everything and hooking the "new" amplifier to an audio source, the sound played clearly and strongly for the first ten seconds. I was happy it was working. Then the sound started to fade out during the playback until it was no more. After it had "dropped to zero", there were two very short intervals of sound playing at the normal volume, as if the amplifier was trying to...

              Hi:

              I've realized that one of the channels of this amplifier has no proper sound.


              This is the signal at the speakers output.

              As long as the audio coming in to the amplifier board (blue) looks ok although with some noise due to the wire, I think that there's nothing to look at the preamp section.




              Now, I could start looking at components to see whether I find the guilty one.......but I would rather prefer to ask for advice. Here there is the amp. schema. Which points would you check with the oscilloscope to gather...

              I'm designing an ESP-based WLED controller board for WS2815 12V LED strips, with a primary focus on energy efficiency.

              To minimize power consumption, my goal is to completely shut down the system when the LED strip is turned off.
