    Yamaha RX-V677 Not turning on

    Hi,
My RX-V677 decided to quit on me.The standby light is not there and when i turn it on it just blinks. I have checked the error codes and there is one `PS3 PRT:127 L` Looks like its a power supply issue. Checked the manual and normal values are
Normal value PS3: 132 to 168 and it monitors 5.5V

I have checked the value of the voltage and it is exactly 5.5V tested. I do get System Version error but i believe it might be because eeprom is not powered up. I have checked these points and the Yellow ones show exact 5.5V. However, the connector highlighted in Green shows 0V. Not sure there should be but i think so.
Any guidance on how to resolve the issue would be appreciated.

PS. I do have soldered all joints on power supply board. I was thinking the power supply might be showing 5.5 v but not sure how to load test? for now even during service mode (brief) the 5.5V email stable.

If I disconnect W108 the device stays on in service mode and does not turn off. But does show the PS3 error. If i connect back W108 (board diagram bottom right) after some time it turns off. Thinking if i should dismantel the bottom board or diagnose on this board?

+5USB is most likely the USB ports 5V supply.
I don't think it is the same as the 5.5V standby voltage.

I also don't see any board at the bottom right in the picture you provided. Or did you mean bottom left?

      Hi,
"127 L" means the supply voltage is too low.
If you measured it using a Digital multimeter, then you should know that on a fluctuating DC voltage, most of the DMM's measure the peak voltage.
Measure it with an oscilloscope to see if there is significant ripple voltage on it. Some ripple is normal, as it is an unregulted supply voltage.
You may visually check that the electrolytic caps that are filtering the +5.6V on the OPERATION (3) PCB are not bulged. C3714, C3715, C3718. Even it they are not bulged, they may have lost significant capacitance.
If the electrolytics are OK, then perhaps the connector to DIGITAL (1) is oxidized or some defective component somewhere is draining too much current from the +5.6V supply.
I have no other idea right now.

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
          by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
          by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

          Assuming...

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
          by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

          Acer Alienware Nitro 5 (GH51G LA-L181P Rev: 1C) & Dell Alienware M15 (GDP50 LA-k452P Rev:1) - Both Shorted PCH (SRKMA)!
          by reessi
          Hello:

I have both these laptops that appeared to have the same fault so I thought I would have a go at replacing the PCH as something to learn, they both are using the same PCH.

          I started on the ACER:

Up on connecting power no signs of life but current is consumed from the bench power supply and the PCH is hot.
All the caps on the top of the PCH are showing 0 ohms and the 3.3v rail is shorted.

I followed the videos from Sorin, Electronics Repair School on Youtube heating from the bottom to install. I practised on around 10 scrap...

Sony KD-70X690E. Started with reset loops.. then it got more complicated. I'm at wits end!
          by phuzzyday
First of all, thank you everyone who helps others in here! You guys are treasures! Please bear with me, this may be long. I have tried a LOT.

First, my wife said the TV was turning off and on. When cold it would be fine for several minutes, then it would start resetting.
I opened it up and noted there are two main lines coming out of the supply besides the backlight., The T-Con 12V line and the main 12V line.
TRIED 1 - I scoped power coming from Power Supply while it was all still connected. I noted that just before it reset, the 12V line going to the T-Con was going...
