NAD 3140 phono input mistake !!

    Hello,

I accidently connected my aux input (TV) to phono1 and now phono1 is louder (volume higher than phono2).

If I don't touch the volume knob and switch my turntable to phono2, the sound is very good on both but phono2 is just lower than phono1 ???

Do you have any idea why ??

I look at the service manual and there is two 330K resistors connected to ground and to each phono inputs. Do you think that could be one of those resistors ?

yes check those resistors and clean the switch

The phono inputs are for different output cartridges, see manual
Phono 1 is for high output cartridges so its level will be lower compared to phono2 using the same level of source
This is normal and there is no fault with the amp.

I put much higher levels of audio into a phono jack than there should be without any ill effects. Like R_J noted, there are amps that have different level phono jacks. This one seems to be one of them.

I just read the phono input section of the Owner's manual and this paragraph explains everything:

          For phono 1:

"This input may also be used with cartridges of other types which have lower-than-normal output voltage such as ..... The phono 1 input has a standard input impedance (47K ohms resistance, 100pF capacitance) but is 10 dB more sensitive than phono 2 input"

That's why with the same turntable and cartridge, phono 1 has a higher output level than phono 2 !!

Glad there is nothing wrong with my amp !

          Thank you R_J !😉

820-02020 Super Weird Issue: Keyboard Input Character Map "Wrong"?
            by ugamazing
So, I have a really bizarre issue that I'm struggling to identify the cause of. Working on an 820-02020 board with some bizarre keyboard/input-source character mapping. My suspicion is a possible damaged SPI ROM (U1970), perhaps, but I'm really not sure in this case:

            1. The issue is pretty weird, but when installing MacOS, I noticed my WiFi password did not work. I quickly realized the special characters (!@#$%^& etc) were not mapping correctly.

            2. I noticed the keyboard layout/input-source is defaulting to JAPANESE every single time I restore the board. I am not...

Schematic vs. Reality: Where Are the Resistors on My Sharp Clock Radio? Model FY-70CH
            by TinkerTron
            Hey everyone,

I'm currently working on a mid-70s Sharp Electronic Digital Clock Radio, Model FY-70CH. I found the service manual online, printed it out, and have been studying it for a while. My main reasons for tackling this are: (1) I want to learn electronics and figured I'd start with something I had on hand, and (2) I want to fix its issues. Right now, the radio sounds awful, has about 5V DC at the speaker terminals, and the alarm time setting doesn't work. But I'm not asking how to fix these problems.

Instead, here's what's been bugging me so far:
            The schematic...

Hot Air Blew Away Resistors Near Bios
            by brightest_z
Hi All - I'm in the midst or reprogramming the bios on my gen1 Surface Laptop Studio and I accidentally blew away 2 resistors nearby the bios. I don't have another board to measure values of the missing resistors and schematics aren't available, bbut the bios is a 6x5mm Winbond WSON8, W25R256JWPQ model. The traces are conductive to Pins 3 and 7 (IO2 & IO3 respectively) so I have reason to believe they are 10k pull up resistors since IO2&3 pins are used for Quad SPI instructions.

Does anyone with more knowledge, and experience than I, know if this is the case?

Denon AVR 1908, High pitch noise on Surround back Left channel after long overhaul
            by karatzdi
            Hello,

I know some might say... just buy another one. Sell it as parts..!

So had this AMP for quite some time. Recently I saw light smoke coming out of the AMP. Had my fire extinguisher close by. Just kidding. Turned immediately all devices off from mains.
Let things cool a bit, and opened up the amp device. I clearly saw on the main board which hosts the 5X amp (5.1), 3 10 ohms 1W resistors had their leads looking black, while the rest of the remaining 2 x 10 ohms were brownish as being installed from factory.

Spent some time downloading the Service...
