    Cambridge DTT2500 5.1 system

    Hi,
I have the above sound system plumbed into my PC and it has recently developed a couple of problems that may be related. They are:

    1. I get intermittent, almost regular low frequency 'clicking' noises through the speakers. Sometimes it doesn't happen at all, other times it clicks about every 2 seconds but its variable. I can hear this even when not connected to the PC.

    2. When I'm listening to music or watching a web broadcast it usually starts off ok, but then the sound keeps cutting out for maybe 2 seconds at a time and this also can become quite regular.

Needless to say its driving me nuts. I've connected headphones to the PC and the sound is fine through those and I'm pretty sure the speakers themselves are ok too.

I'm reluctant to junk the system since its served me well and the sound quality is great. Having said that I'm not very technical and I'm wondering if there is a solution to this and if it could be repaired (I'm in the UK).

Any thoughts or help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If it's anything like the Creative Gigaworks i've worked on, they tend to develop cold joints on the amplifier ICs, and resoldering them is all that's needed.

Anyway, you're gonna have to pop it open and have a look inside the plate amplifier located on the back of the subwoofer.
