Harman HA-7.1hd(stuck on the same volume)

    Harman HA-7.1hd

Symptoms stuck volume control tested with remote and Knob.
It won't turn up or down its at one volume.

    What could cause this?

I'm troubleshooting before opening it up, here because I don't have the amplifier in my hands at the moment.

    I'm assuming bad solder joint.

These people have just moved from interstate, so the boxes would of be shipped around.

Could it be a dry solder joint in the volume circuit?

I notice all the other control knobs work. its the main one thats the issue.

    amps aren't really my thing.

    update

    2x2200uf 35v caps

look to be bad would this cause this symptom.

I don't wanna be fixing anything that don't need fixing.

could these bad caps be causing this because there is some good ones and some bad ones?

I might just go recap it.

Is there a reset option on the amp?

Also the center and rears will run off a separate amp inside.

            no reset options.

The main volume doesn't turn down the rears and center speakers.
although you can turn them down with there own volume knob.
rear left and right knob, center knob.

the two front speakers do however turn down with main volume control.

Re: Harman HA-7.1hd(stuck on the same volume)

I have replaced all main caps.

Still problem persists re-soldered basically everything on the boards.

Beginning to think its meant to be like this and before they was probably turning it down with dvd volume button.

Online its like this model never existed. I believe it was a White Van Scam.

It hasn't got Kardon any where on it.

Could the little 4 mm caps be bad also, should I replace them?

a quick Google comes up with a Harman acoustics ha-7.1hd. so it deffo isn't a harman kardon

I believe this amplifier to be a rip off.

                    its looks pretty cheaply made.

I need to invest in a new camera some time.

That certainly is not a harmon kardon amp lol.

That looks like very poor quality, i bet its not even dts or dolby digital. Most likely just dsp to make it feel like surround sound.

Also looks like 5.1, not 7.1.

Can I have a pic of the front and the back. Interested to see what it looks like.

Hope you didnt pay much for it

What's that plastic bag at the bottom of amp? Looks like spare capacitors???

BTW, as "good" as Harmon Kardon sound, there are a lot of poor component choices in them leading to early failure, in particular poor quality caps.

I see 14 transistors, there are two per channel, so it is a 7 channel amplifier most likely.

You get technical by counting transistors so are probably right. I just counted speaker terminals Lol.

surely harman kardan amps have more components than that. I imagine this is just like one of them akura receivers off eBay that claims to be 600/1200w.

still interested in some more pics though.

Those are the old capacitors I have put in a bag, just not throwing them out until I show the customer what his bad caps were doing.

I didn't pay for the amp it was out of the back of a van scam apparently.

                                Its actually a 5 channel amp. front L/R, C, Rear L/R.
The lightest home theater amp I have picked up.

I'm unsure why the center speakers and rears aren't turning down on the main volume control. when I turn these down with there individual controls they turn down.

I will post more pictures when my phone charges up.

Ok thanks, I want to see the front and back to see if its a rebadged cheapo Hyundai or Auna.

Also, it doesnt look very tall? The only slim receivers i have seen are class D receivers, which dont have a big heatsink like that.

if it is a white van special, it's not worth fixing. if the amp ever worked properly to begin with, the cheap white van speakers could have broken it. some white van speakers have been known to blow out amps

I have been looking on ebay for them kind of amps, I really want one, want to try a bass test on it with 2 car subs and see what happens.

                                        Would pay no more than
                                        £5 though.
