    Possibly Broken STR-AV310

Hello Everyone, I have an issue with my Sony STR-AV310. I think I fried mine . I would plug in my Sony Turntable to the PHONO jacks along with the ground wire to the ground screw and it would play well. Sometimes the buzzing would gradually get louder until it got so loud that the protection circuit goes on and an orange "P" would light up on the LCD. After I unplug the turntable, it goes back to normal. The last time I plugged it in, the buzzing got louder again until I heard a pop from the speakers. The receiver froze and it would not respond to the power button. Both the DBFB and Mute light was on and the LCD which said PHONO showed only parts of the letters lit. The "P" symbol didn't light. After a few seconds I saw a small amount of "Magic Smoke" coming from the receiver top. I quickly unplugged it after. I opened the top cover and looked for "fried" components. I didn't find any capacitors or resistors burnt or other burn marks on the PCB. The fuses near the transformer weren't blown. However I found the leads on what appears to be a Table Rectifier Diode burnt/charred. What I realized after is that the RCA plugs on the turntable seem to be frayed as when I plugged them into my computer, I also heard buzzing and crackling which was the same as I heard on the receiver before it broke. Is this receiver now completely broken? I have not plugged it back in because I am afraid I will damage it more. What I believe is that the shorted cables from the turntable caused too much power to be drawn from the rectifier and made it burn.

If I replace that table rectifier diode will it work again? I have found similar table rectifier diodes online rated at 8A and 400V. Based on a spec sheet I found online, the Bridge Rectifier on the receiver is rated at 200V 4A. Can I replace the old bridge rectifier with the 8A 400V rated one?

Here is where the broken part is:

This is how the replacement part should look like:

Is it possible bridging tiny broken trace
      by chth96
When I assembled dreamcast I mistakenly fastened long bolt and It resulted in
      cutting tiny trace.
This tiny trace(Total width of white coating is 5.5mm) is between R337,R343 and IC101 and it is covered with white coating in the below screenshot.

Firstly I tried to bridging tiny broken trace with my own eyes...But it is totally impossible..So a week ago, I ordered G1200 Digital Microscope and I magnified this tiny broken trace with it.

But It seems that It is really very tiny trace So I plan to order 0.1mm coper wire from aliexpress in order to bridging...

Bridge rectifier identification part number KPB305G
      by Steph.hen
Hi all, a newby question about a bridge rectifier I'm trying to identify.

I'm in the midst of reparing a battery charger in work which went pop, The bridge rectifier has shorted and took out a couple of other components. The rectifier in question has a part number KPB305G, and it looks like it's obsolete. Does any one know what I could replace it with?...

      Finding proper replacement rectifier
      by unimatrix93
      Hello everyone,

I'm trying to fix up my battery charger. Where I found a dead schottky rectifier.

This is the dead component PTR30L120CTF:
      PTR30L120CTF datasheet(1/7 Pages) PFC | 30A 120V HPTR Schottky Rectifier (alldatasheet.com)

      And I have a spare 30CPQ150:
      30CPQ150 datasheet(1/5 Pages) IRF | SCHOTTKY RECTIFIER (alldatasheet.com)

Can I use this diode as a replacement or if not, can you recommend me a proper replacement?
I cannot find the exact unit anywhere besides aliexpress and such.

      Thank you guys!

Diagnosing NAD receiver -- unexplained shut-downs
      by JordanW
Everyone -- I am trying to troubleshoot my NAD C740 stereo receiver, which either won't power on or won't consistently stay powered on.

I will start by saying that I am a hobbyist, and while I am decently handy with basic DC stuff, I am more hesitant when it comes to mains-powered equipment (that is, reluctant to poke around with a multimeter when it is powered on)

The central issue is that after a long period of non-use, the receiver powers on and all functions seem to behave normally, but after a couple of minutes, it powers itself off.

      If I attempt...

TV that only has headphone out to receiver/amp
      by JayPoorJay
Hello All... Grateful for this site!

I just repaired a 70inch Sharp flat screen I found on the curb in NYC (there are 1000s) thanks to the good folks on this site

I have a question about an audio signal from a TV that only has a headphone jack as a audio output source. I have it hooked up now with a headphone style adapter that converts the headphone plug to an RCA. I plug this into my PHONO input on the receiver. To play it this way I need to turn volume waaaay down on TV and volume up higher than I think I should on the receiver. I get undertone hissy sound, blunt...
