    Well, got my caps.
redid psu and mobo.(used gun on mobo, not fun, but no damage.)
fans spin now but no pic and HDD light always on.(had light problem once before on a system.)
    - all hardware is good, system ran fine till it just wouldn't turn on anymore.
    - voltages look fine.
will take out mobo and triple check for shorts, oh and must do wiggle test first, incase a cap leg didn't get solder right.
(on psu which used normal solder, using the sucker before taking cap out made a nice clean hole.)

added: did try another video card, no go.

removed all caps, checked capacitance with mmeter, replaced all with a nice 55w iron I found(Imperial pencil), still a no go.
      - no video & HDD light always on, no floppy activity to do the auto-bios-flash at boot time.(new floppy, tested in this computer.)
      - checked for voltage on all caps, seems ok.(just some odd voltages i wasn't ready to see, like: 3.7v, when others do have the 3.33v)
      - 2 of the vrm chips have 0v on one leg, 7v on another, but a normal 4.85 on the tab/middle leg.

Looks like I missed the boat on saving this one.(GA-7VT600-L)

Anyone have similar experience with no video and hdd light on, after recap?
(i know i've had that problem before on another board, before I knew about recapping stuff; just don't remember the problem/fix.)

      thanks for any feedback.

        Oh,
I've checked with and without the following hooked up:
        floppy
        HDD
        CD
        video card
        memory
        cpu(fan plugged in, ofcourse)

also, is there a key, for a desktop computer, to hold before power on, to start/force anything?
            - just cause some older laptops had that, ibm thinkpad i think.

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
              by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

How do you test MOSFET in laptops ?
              by Jane
I tried to use this method:

              Testing an N-channel MOSFET:

Step 1: Discharge the Gate (turn off the MOSFET)
Place the black probe (COM) on the Source (S) and the red probe on the Drain (D). The multimeter should show no continuity (high resistance or "OL" – open line).
Then, touch the black probe to the Source (S) and the red probe to the Gate (G). This discharges any stored charge in the Gate, turning the MOSFET off.

Step 2: Charge the Gate (turn on the MOSFET)
Now, place the red probe on the Gate (G) and the black probe on the

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
              by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

VGA MOSfet permanently shorted and loss of MOSfet pad
              by Nooy
Hello everyone, I recently found this badcaps site and super Learn Electronics Repair youtube channel. And I wanted to learn how to troubleshoot power supplies and VGA cards and how to practice soldering, since I already have a properly defective piece of them. I am currently trying to solve two problems:

I have a Gigabyte GV-RX460WF2OC-4GD type card. I managed to find the faulty MOSfet (AON6414A) on it, which I replaced. The card starts up, but after about half a minute, the MOSfet in the same position will be shorted again. Is it possible that the PWM controller driving the MOSfet...

Asus X712EA 3 volts after the first mosfet
              by AppleLover123
              Hey guys,

i have a asus motherboard here and as the title says after the first mosfet (in the picture) there is nothing more than 3.15v.
I injected 19v and max. 1 amp at the charging port and there is not voltage drop or smth. It's just taking 19v and 1 milliamp.
Then i tried to inject 19v and max 1amp after the current sensor and there it first takes 19v and 4 milliamps and after 2 seconds it is taking nothing (no current).
I measured on the coils on board everything seems fine. Also the main power rail is not shorted (infinite resistance).
              Now i thought something...
