it will have atleast 1 and probably more than 2 surfacemount fuses.

look for things that look like resistors but are clear or green - that's the usual colours.

Very much a newb here but the logic would be to follow the power circuit look at everything board traces solder points and so on. Things like flexing of the PCB board can cause issues.

It is probably a fuse or something of that nature causing a no power situation but what caused that there are people who know who dont care to share this kind of information cause they stand to lose money...

The other issues we are running into is SOIC chips lifting legs not always very noticeable for instance the one on that gold board I would for kicks slap a heatgun on that sucker for about 15 seconds as well as some of the other chips on the board without hitting any plastic pieces constantly keeping it in motion on a low fan or blow setting...

BGA chips are very poor as well lots of manufacturers are embracing BGA but they are not taking note... Most of these units now adays stand straight up like the PS3 and XBOX if you notice a lot of people standing there units on end this causes overtime the RROD or YLOD I believe you can try to say I am wrong here but I do not believe it to be just coincidence keep your units flat people do not try to make them sit up and do tricks cause eventually the heat will cause issues of heat creep ...

They are advertised this way to me more sleek and newish looking it is not good to stand your units on end unfortunately with MP3 units we do not have a choice.

In your case it looks like someone backyard repair man already tried to fix them and make them work then sold them to you on ebay but I could be wrong.

I am no expert all I can do is give you input hopefully it will be a bit of guidance for you or inspiration whatever it would be there is a way to fix this unit if you invest a lot of time into it. But without the proper equipment some fixes are impossible I think however if you do find the fuse or whatever it may fix both units so keep searching and please do share with us cause you know how hard it is to get straight answers on repairs people are greedy for that I am sorry ...
THANK YOU.. this was the answer and direction i was looking for. i will share my findings.

How did the socket get broken?

Re: are there any ipod techs here??

Hi, I dont know if you have found a solution to your problem yet but i have a shop in Bedford TX and work on them daily.

            1. Are you plugging the iPod into a computer via USB? If so thats your first issue. You need an external power supply like the wall or car charger. One that doesn't need drivers installed to power it on.

            2. I would try a new flex cable from the docking port to the logic board. Swap them from the other one in the picture. See if that helps.

            3. The Cable from the Logic board to the LCD in the first picture is indeed broken but wont cause the iPod to fail on recognition to a PC. Swap the batteries from the other iPod(i'm assuming you have another one) granite they are the same model and voltage.

            4. Last I have replaced the charging/docking connections on iPod's and touch's and its a delicate job but can be done. Make sure your pins inside arent damaged or corroded(broken). If you want to try this let me know and ill put a walk through w pics for you.

Let me know what you find out.

            Good Luck!
