iPod nano G3 - alternative soldering point for the white battery wire

    Hi,

A friend of mine gave me an iPod nano G3 to see if I can fix it for him.

The device had a faulty battery and he tried to replace it but failed. In the process he managed to pull off the pads that corresponds to the white battery wire (marked with a red circle in the images)....from both sides of the PCB. Fortunetely he didn't damage anything else.
This is usually an easy fix HOWEVER, on the PCB, I see no traces coming from the VIA and after searching the internet, I've found no schematics nor boardview for this device. With the pads gone from both sides I seem to have no way of locating an alternative soldering point myself.
Based on what I've found on the internet, the white battery wire is for temperature monitoring and should be connected to a thermistor.
I would like to ask for your help

On a heavily liquid damaged one I've got here, I'm measuring continuity to pin 3 of the PMIC.

      Confirmed!
I got continuity from inside the VIA (I stuck the probe there) to the same pin of the PMIC. The trace must be going through an internal layer.
Although I do own a microscope and a microsoldering iron I'm not sure if I got the skills to pull this off so I've been searching for an alternative using this point as a reference...but seems to find none.
I will give it a chance, thank you

It shouldn't be too difficult to solder a piece of enameled wire to the pin of the PMIC, and then put a few drops of coating/glue to tack it to the board and route it across. Practice on another scrap board first.
The issue though is that there's nothing left to hold the battery wire in place so you need to find a way to secure it.

          Hi,

I have managed to do it!
Unfortunately it seems like my friend has broken the screen during dissasembly so he had to order a new screen...but still the battery now works
          Thanks for the help!
